Byron
Byron is good area with new and resale homes. I don't know much about Byron schools but White Rd in Byron is close to Warner Robins shopping. Carrington and Manchester are good subdivisions in Byron

I live in Byron and the schools are very good....Carrington and Manchester have nice homes, however that area they are in stays congested and the lots are very small. If you are looking in Byron, I would consider these subs: Harrington, Olde English Plantation, Powersville Plantation, Jacob's Landing....the lots are alot nicer and you don't have the congestion issues.

If you are looking for more charm and less sprawl I would suggest looking a little off I-75. The sprawl from the interstate has ruined many of the towns along this interstate. But, if you want to be close to Atlanta stay close to the Interstate. I would recommend Barnesville or Marshallville they are a little off the interstate but have a massive amount of charm. Marshallville is the Camillia capital of the World. The roads to this tiny city are lined with old Crape Myrtles. planted in the 1930's. The whole city is in bloom during the fall months. The city has many antebellum homes and grand victorian ones too. The city is small and looks like "Fried Green Tomatoes". All major shopping is in the nearby city of Fort Valley or Warner Robins. The city does have grocery stores, but not any Wallmarts. I would suggest to have a map of the area you want and research online and visit to find the right spot.

The Douglas News (broken link) Try this website out. You can meet and greet some of the people, get a good taste of thier sense of humor and decide for yourself what you think. I lived there for 9 years and hated it but loved it all at the same time. I came away from the area with many new friends that I will keep in contact with for the rest of my life. Of course they also have thier fair share of people that I could care less to ever associate with again. Great place but it can be hard to move there from other areas. Good things to like if you do move there: GA Bulldogs, driving somewhere else for entertainment, gossip, spending money & Fernandina Beach, FL. The largest majority of people there are poor then the rest are rich, very few in the middle but every one likes to keep up with the Jones'. But it is a fun place once you get used to thier unique culture. Ensure you have a great job that isn't easily lost and purchase a home outside of the city limits or very near the golf club. Don't buy in Bay Meadows rent there it is only a good starter community and you should be a very happy person there. Make friends with the people at the Chamber of Commerce and they will lead you right with the good quality people in or around town. Lots of good people who throw low key football parties and love to fish fry. Visit many to all of the churches because they vary a lot even if they are the same denomonation. Good luck and best of wishes.

I am looking to move somewhere in south central georgia. If anybody could give me some suggestions of nice towns around there it would be great. I am looking for towns with at least some of the following criteria.
Good Schools
Safety (not overrun with crime)
Job availability and pay
Small town feel, but modern conveniences (Wal Mart, Lowes, theaters, etc.)
Cost of living
Plenty of things to do outdoors (parks, bike/hiking trails, etc.)
Thanks for the help!

McDonough is not south-central Georgia. If anything, it is north-central, considering it's a part of metro Atlanta. At the very least, it's on the northern edge of middle Georgia.
