June Georgia Unemployment Numbers. It isn't good.
The unemployment numbers are out for June. The state unemployment average is now at 10.5%.. but some counties are doing much worse. For instance, Jenkins County has a whopping 20.1% unemployemnt rate. For the metro areas, Athens and Savannah appear to be in the best shape, with unemployment below the state average.
Here is a handy pdf map to see how your county compares on the unemployment numbers.

The Athens MSA supposedly has the lowest metropolitan rate in the state, at 7.9%. Athens MSA includes Athens-Clarke County, Oconee County, Jackson County, Madison County and Oglethorpe County. Oconee County has the lowest unemployment, 6.6% of the five counties in the MSA.

From the map, that appears to be true. Savannah is right after Athens.

Keep in mind that these "official" umemployment numbers are skewed to the low side. They don't count workers who really want full-time work but are unable to find it, so are working part-time.
Also (the worst), when someone uses up his unemployment benefits (reaches the max # of weeks), he drops off the umemployment rolls. In other words, they count him as having found a job just because he is no longer receiving benefits.
So as alarming as these numbers are, they are in fact best case scenerio for what the job market is really like.

And, they don't include university students in either employment or criminal stats.
