gotta leave miami is on a distinguished road
Default Another tired Miamian relocating to Georgia

I made the trip with wife and 2 kids, and was BLOWN AWAY by the prices. My wife and I have never owned a home in Miami, and will never be able to, due to the ridiculous prices!!!!! I refuse to move my family into a CONDO... 2 bedroom if I'm lucky or sacrifice the kids education!!!!!! I truly feel sorry for everyone that struggles to make it here, and the sad part is that they will never, much like me, achieve that "AMERICAN DREAM" of owning a home. It's SAD!!!!!!!

I mean- in Miami a 3/2 house in Kendall or Miami Lakes starts at 450-500k and up. Those neighborhoods are nice but not ritzy in any way. My price range is 150-180k, so you all know what that will get me in Miami- a 1 bedroom condo in Hialeah (which I grew up in) or a crack house in overtown/ liberty city. Well, in Fayetteville(schools are 8,9,and 10's) I can get a 3/2 house with half an acre plus for 175k !!!!! So yes, I am making the move. I did experience horrible traffic heading to and from the city during rush hours. The main difference is that I didn't have 5-6 near death accidents on the way. Which ofcourse happens to me everyday in Miami!!!!!!!!!!!! I know soooo many people that are relocating to Atl, and I am glad. Hopefully there will be a couple of new Cuban restaurants in the works soon!!!! Pan con Bistec !!!! If you don't know what this is... I'm sorry that you don't- but should try it soon!!!!!!!!!!

Miami blows!!!!!!!

In 100% agreement. If only they would serve their delicious tamal and lechon asado with a ramekin of homemade mojo (like our fondly-recalled Crazy Cuban).

Talking I can't wait

Nice! That's good to know! Thanks Figment 07 & dlh891! I also heard of a little place called Papi's in stockbridge??? I checked out their website, and it looks authentic. I will definitely make it a goal of mine to visit these cuban places and see how they compare. I'm a tough critic though, since I did have a plate of cuban food everyday as I grew up from my mom. So you know it will be tough to compete with mom's cooking! However, with cuban food, you almost can't go wrong. Ofcourse your cholesterol and blood pressure will suffer, but so well worth it!!!

Now back to the fayetteville topic... will an Americanized Miami - Cuban fully bi-lingual and college educated feel comfortable there? I really don't want my family to feel any racial tension. Eventhough the last time we visited , I felt totally comfortable amongst the cities people. Everyone we encountered seemed helpful. Also, on the map, it seems that fayetteville is close to clayton county. Which ofcourse from what the stats say is horrible! I confirmed this just last week! My best friend, which lives here in Miami, went up to check out properties in south Atlanta ie; stockbridge, mcdonough, etc... and made the mistake of renting at a hotel in jonesboro (clayton county) went to the gas station, and as he was in line to pay inside, his rental car was stolen off the premises!!! The gas station attendant told him that there were no security cameras outside that point towards the gas pumps!!!!! The only cameras were inside??? Anyway, car stolen, and might have to pay portion of car!!!! Needless to say, he now is not considering atl!!! I ofcourse have better sense to realize that the same would happen here if I drove into a gas station in overtown (at night)! Can someone please ease my concerns. Is fayetteville really close to clayton county, and if not, does any of that crime spill over into fayette county??? Is it the equivalent of overtown/ liberty city here in miami??? Please help.

Hello,

Would like some info on St Mary's. Looking for early retirement for hubby & myself. We are mid 50's.
Are there part time job openings....could not possibly be home all day with hubby?
Business oportunities of opening a pet supply store??

can not afford to stay in NJ, retire and live the way we are used to.
Feel free to email me as well.

Thanks
Kate

If you plan to purchase a home--keep your job until you have found another or after you receive a few pay checks with a good credit score, you may want to consider purchasing as the lease dollars are equal to a mortgage. I wish you well, as you will be just fine in Atlanta.
