Georgia is a growing state with lots of opportunity. I would suggest checking moving to a suburb of Atlanta (Conyers, Douglasville, Stone Mountain are excellent).
Columbus is also growing by leaps and bounds and the crime rate is no where as near as high as ATL.

Wow..I can't believe anyone told you to look at Stone Mountain! Stay away from there with children My husband and I are planning to relocate soon. I am an elementary school teacher and we have 2 children. I'm also African-American. From all the research I've done (schools, demographics) I would tell you to look at Fayetteville (Fayette County schools) Alpharetta (Fulton County schools) and SOME areas of Gwinnett county. It seems like you can get the most for your money in Fayetteville.
Good luck!

I can't believe your leaving FL to escape racial tensions and heading to GA. I lived in Tampa for over 4 years and I have been living North of Atlanta for about 1 year and I am currently making plans to get out of here because of all the racial nonsense. I was raised in the Northeast where the types of behavior I have experienced here does not exist. Things seem to be very segregated here and people from every race seem to prefer it that way. But in my opinion the most decent areas are going to be on the Northwest side of Atlanta, Cobb County especially. This where you'll find easier commutes and the best schools in the area. Good Luck, I'm heading back to NY, to the melting pot where I was raised.

Fayetteville ,Peachtree City both are in Fayette county.Because of being a planned community Peachtree City housing will cost more but it still has a wide range of home pricing.Hope this helps, but there are lots of metro atlanta areas you would like.Good luck

Gwinnett County ------------- SAT %Black %Asian %White %Hispanic

Brookwood High l (Sneville, GA) 1098 10% 8% 75% 5%
*PeachTree Ridge (Suwanee, GA) 1039 16% 21% 52% 9%
*Peachtree Ridge is only three years old. It is close to Sugarloaf county club. It will become excellent school soon.
North Fulton County
NorthView High (Duluth, GA) 1145 7% 22% 67% 2%
Chattahoochee High (Alpharatta, ga) 1120 9% 19% 65% 4%
Roswell High School (Roswell, GA) 1097 12% 5% 71% 9%
Milton High School (Alpharatta, GA) 1115 6% 3% 86% 3%
Fayette County
Starrs Mill High (Fayetteville, GA) 1107 7% 2% 87% 3%
McIntosh High (PeachTree City, GA) 1115 9% 5% 81% 4%
*Fayette County High (Fayetteville, GA) 1045 28% 5% 62% 3%
It looks like a lot of African american there. Looks like up and coming.
Dekalb County
Chamblee High (Chamblee, GA) 1128 46% 9% 35% 7%
LakeSide High (Alanta, GA) 1092 26% 9% 48% 13%
Cobb County
Pope High School (Marietta, GA) 1104 6% 6% 85% 3%
Walton High School (Marietta, GA) 1157 4% 9% 82% 1%
Lassiter High School (Marietta, GA) 1121 5% 4% 86% 3%
Just one thing. I know a lot of high income african americans move to Lithonia (Stone Mountain). The school there may have poor performance now, but it may not be the case in the near future.

thank you for all your replies..and to thate the south it's not really racial tension as the reason i'm moving. it's the over price houses, low paying jobs.the terrible schools..It's impossible to live down here. the avg income in a household down here would have to be almost 90k combined to live comfortable..a decent 3 bedroom home in a decent area runs 280k to over 300k.but the avg income ranges 20k-35k and if you have a degree they wont pay you what you are worth..and the school system is awful there are kids repeating 1st grade wtf???it's a horrible placeto live unless you want to retire.
