That may be true. As I haven't been to Columbus since January. I was just making sure you know. Columbus Metro would first have to past Metro Savannah. In order to catch Augusta with the number of new residents every year. Metro Augusta is gaining more people than any other city in GA not named Atlanta.

I agree with you 100%, but columbus almost has svannah in in 2010 will because of the 40,000 soliders and their families settling in Columbus and Fort Benning, plus it was said that Auburn/Opelika will be included in the Columbus Ga-Al MSA next year. So, in 2010 we will have already passed Savannah by a long shot and comin' to get Augusta!!!!

Yes, slowly, they should all be in by the 2010 census count. Columbus will then pass Savannah and will be neck and neck with Augausta.

It really doesnt matter what the city population. Its about the metro, guy. Columbia and Aiken Co. grows, Augusta still wins. Burke Co. should be next.

True, but Atlanta is more developed than Charlotte.

The mini theater isn't exactly a performing arts center.. not like the scale of The River Center. The closest Augusta has to a performing arts center is the Maxwell in the ASU campus, but again, we are talking about a building that is over 30 years old and is way too small. The Miller will be a nice venue when it is finsihed, comparable to The Springer, but Augusta still lacks a multifunctional modern performing arts center. The arts community is spread out in these smaller venues. The fact is Columbus has been more proactive and ahead of the curve on updating their cultural amenities. Their arena is fairly new and is has a much better layout than the JB. .
The River Center is a facility Augusta should have built 15 years ago.. maybe eventually we will.

I think the riverwalks of the two cities are pretty comparable. Phenic City has a nice amphitheater. I wish the would restart the twighlight movies at the augusta amphitheater.

Does a big performing arts center make a city? Augusta has the Maxwell, Imperial, Bell Auditorium, Jesse Norman Ampitheatre, Mini Theatre, and a Miller under construction.

Augusta doesn't need another small arena Columbus arena only seats 10,000 people. Somebody from Atlanta wanted to build. A 20,000 seat arena downtown. When I posted the thread in the forum. You were one of the main people. Who said Augusta couldn't support it. You're mentioning Phenix city. When I only gave venues in the city of Augusta. Not any in the suburbs of Augusta.

Augusta updated the Imperial Theatre a couple years back, opened a Mini Theatre this year, and the Miller is under construction. I mean we have a section of downtown called ''Artist Row''. Which is mostly a artsy crowd.

Cultural amenities are a quality of life issue. Metro Augusta gains the most resident outside of metro Atlanta.
