Exclamation Moving To Georgia

My Family and I am moving from Florida to Georgia. It's been a bit of a challenge find a home suitable for my family. My knowledge of Georgia is minuscule. I was wondering if there was anyone out there whom could advise and educate me about Georgia cities! Schools and low/ no crime rate are very important in making the choice of which city my family and I will be moving to. So far I've researched Cobb and Gwinette Counties. I've been looking at cities such as Marietta, Snellville, and Stone Mountain. Not too sure how accurate my finding have been. Is there anyone out there who can help?

Default School info

Hi there. Go to greatschools.net or schoolsk-12.com. I find these to be the most popular and accurate for school reports. Depending on where you will work, commute traffic is important too. We've been selling real estate 40+ years and live south of Atlanta. Coweta and Fayette counties. Easy 25 minutes to airport, 35 into the city. We're from L.A. and S.F. the traffic doesn't even come close, despite what you'll read. Welcome. If we can help let us know. Team Sullivan Southernstage.com

The two websites quoted above are pretty fair sites to check out, but make sure that you review their measurement criteria. You could also look at an area like Athens, which currently has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state. It includes Athens-Clarke County, Oglethorpe County, Oconee County (including Watkinsville), Jackson County and Madison County. Unless you are working in Atlanta, or going there often, you don't have nearly the traffic issues while costs, especially for housing, is lower. While it does not have the large portfolio of choices for dining, shopping and entertainment that Atlanta Metro has, it does have a very good suite of choices. Plus, if you need to go to the airport, it is about a 75 minute drive (depending upon the time of day, could be a bit quicker, or,during evening commute longer). Various other venues in Atlanta metro can be reached in from just under an hour to 90 minutes or so, on average. Let me know if you have any more questions about Athens.

Peachtree City is great for families but pretty expensive for housing. Woodstock is supposed to be good too. Buford has the Mall of Georgia, reasonable housing, and many families.

Avoid Stone Mountain (crime). I don't think Lilburn is good either.

It all depends on where you think you will be working. Many areas of GA have high crime/ gang problems and there are some really bad schools here too.

Lilburn and Snellville are just fine. Also Lawrenceville, Walton, Suwanee, Buford and Dacula. Bigger question is this retirement or do you have a job?

The distance I may have to travel to work is not as important to me as my family living in a safe neighborhood or my kids going to a good school. My husband is a soldier but currently out of the household due to military transfer...

If you are looking in the Atlanta metro, you might try posting on the Atlanta board for more insight.
