Retail in 2nd tier cities!
I live in Macon and was thinking. Why is Augusta so far ahead in retail. Compared to the other 2nd tier cities?
Walking Company, Buybuy Baby, Williams-Sonoma, Apple, Jared the Galleria of Jewelery, Sephora, and other retail.
Can Savannah, Macon, or Columbus support any of these stores?
Macon/WR area can support them in my opinion.

Well Macon has several Lifestyle centers in the works which pushed back there 2009 openings until 2010 and some 2011 because of the economy but I'm sure that those retailers and eaters and more will be apart of these developments.... The Developers of these center has said that most of the retailers and eaters will be upscale, new to the market and some new to GA..... So We just have to wait until 2010 to see what all will comes to Macon.
North Macon
One upscale Eatery that has been Confirmed and committed at Providence Towne Center(Atlantic Station type Project) is Grill 29 Grille 29 - Sophisticated Sizzle
Also a down the Street in the Lull water Power center is the new J.Christopher restaurant which is complete and opening Soon....
J. Christopher's: Atlanta Breakfast & Lunch Restaurant
The New Open-Air mall, Shoppes at River Crossing has a new Bone fish Grill which opened in 2008.......

The same reasons. Atlanta is so far ahead of Augusta in retail.
The number of 50k and up jobs, population, and local money.

Hey pal, you can't say Macon/WR like that. Macon and Warner Robins, though only a few miles apart, with commuters who travel back and forth from both cities daily, should never be mentioned together as one area because they are listed as two totally different metros and because Macon haters do not approve of such claims
But in all seriousness, the area can support them. We just have to wait like MaconWard1 said.

2011-2012. They should be in Macon, Savannah, and Columbus. Probably not all of them but some.

Savannah has the only Marc by Marc Jacobs store in the state, as well as stores that don't have stores outside of Atlanta like Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Anchor Blue, and a lot of others. Usually whatever Savannah doesn't have Hilton Head has. Like Williams-Sonoma, Crabtree & Evelyn, Ann Taylor aong others.

Savannah beats Macon and Columbus. But Augusta still has Savannah by a good bit. Forever 21 is opening at Augusta mall. Kohls, Dicks, Ann Taylor loft, Earthfare, Ann Taylor, Academy Outdoors are in Augusta.
