Commute time from Woodstock to Marietta
My wife and I may be moving to take new postions at a company in Marietta. We do not have children so schools are not important. We plan to rent a townhouse for a few years as we are getting older and do not want the maintenance or yard work associated with a house. We have been looking online at city's like Kennesaw, Woodstock, Roswell, and Alpharetta. Can anyone recommend areas with nice townhomes that do not include a long commute to and from Marietta each day.

a) Define "long commute" and b) where in Marietta is the job? "Marietta" addresses encompass not only Marietta proper, but also a huge area of unincorporated Cobb County, so it's impossible to say what your commute would be like without knowing where you're commuting to.

The facility is located near Dobbins AFB. Our currrent commute is only 12 minutes but we live in a much smaller area than Atlanta. We would like the shortest commute possible but still live in an area with nice townhomes and a nice downtown area with surrounding restaurants.

From Woodstock to Dobbins you'd take 575 (around 8 miles) to 75 for 7 miles. In the morning, you'll hit some traffic where 575 merges onto 75 starting around 7am, and it'll slow down again as you approach your exit on 75. Door to door you're probably looking at a 30-ish minute commute on most days.
In the afternoon, traffic usually starts backing up just south of Exit 261 (the exit for Dobbins), and the trip to the 575 exit (Exit 268) can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes. 575 itself can be stop-and-go at times, with no rhyme or reason, and that portion of the trip can be anywhere from 5-15 minutes. You're looking at a 35 minute commute home on a great day, 45 minutes on most days, and all bets are off if it rains or on Fridays in the summer.

Depends where in Roswell and Kennesaw- both encompass large areas. If you're further down 575 or 75, you'd obviously have a shorter commute, but if you start getting too far east/west from the interstates, what you save in north/south travel will be burned up by time spent getting to the interstate.
All three have great townhomes available.
