Relocating to South Georgia
Hi All,
We are moving out of South Florida. My husband was offered a relocation from his company, which he would be working on Sea Island. We have the possibility to rent on Sea Island. But we ultimately want 2-10 acres. Is there an area nearby Sea Island ( hour drive) that would have these types of homes ? We have been to Sea Island before and loved the types of friendly people there. Is the same hospitality offered in other parts of Georgia? We have a 16 y.o. son, so schools are also important.
And what would anyones opinion be between Georgia and Tennessee. tennessee is our first choice, but moving to Georgia would not require to change jobs. My husband is in the Heavy Timber Industry.
Also, We do not want to be anywhere near Atlanta. The whole reason for our move is to get into a southern hospitality type of laid back living. We are currently in Fort Lauderdale, and it is awful. Eventhough we all grew up here, we feel that we are true southerners with southern accents and all. (How much further south do you get than South Florida) Love nature, music and friendly people. NO MORE RAT RACE !!! And neighbors that are too nosey and too close.
Brunswick is out of the question because of the factories and the odor from them.
Thanks Ahead for all replys, looking forward to info.
Thanks,
theqbaby

Try Darien up to the north on I-95. Coming from S Florida you'll adjust better weather wise in S Georgia. I was in Brunswick that past March and could not smell the odor from the paper mill. I rememebr a time long ago when you could smell that thing for 50 miles. Also, Look around St. Mary's.
Good Luck

jdaryl2002 ,
Thanks for your reply. I will admit it has been probably 5-7 years since I have been to Georgia. The one thing that sticks in my mind (besides the southern charm) is coming over the bridge from Sea Island and getting hit with a tremendous odor. Sea Island isn't exactly the place for us. We would like a bit of land around us. We live in the city now, and NEED to remove ourselves from the whole concrete jungle.
Our nieghbors our too close. Well, I guess I didn't start feeling that way until we moved into my parents house to care for my ill father and ended up with a rotten neighbor. Can't enjoy our pool without him staring or taking pictures of us enjoying it. If we play music on Saturday afternoon, while doing yard work, he calls the police and complains. Or if we burn a fire in our outdoor firepit, he calls the fire department. I am hoping that there aren't many more like him anywhere !!
Again, Thanks for the info.

Moutlrie Georgia
Moultrie/Colquitt County is one of Georgia's Fastest growing areas, lots of new growth in the retail and restaurant areas as well as new subdivisions are poping up all over. Subdivisions range from homes in the low to mid 100,000's to more than $300,000s gated communities.
Has a great hometown charm.
Less than 40 minutes from Albany, Tifton, Valdosta, Thomasville, Adel and Camilla. Less than 1 hour from Tallahssee Florida. Less than 70 miles due north of the Gulf Coast, 2 hours from Panama City Beach. 3 1/2 hours South of Atlanta. The most centrally located city in South Georgia.
Recently have had articles from GeorgiaTrend Magazine and South Georgia Business Magazine talking about the growth and buzz around Moultrie.
Home to many major events and festivals including, Sunbelt Expo, multiple Art and Craft shows, multiple car shows, swimming compitions and is also home to one of the best outdoor diving facilities in the world. (Home to Olympic Diving Teams from around the world during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta)
Hospital voted #1 in costumer satisfaction multiple years in a row.
One of the prettiest cities you have seen. Courthouse picked in a recent book as the "Prettiest Courthouse in Georgia"
Home to US Senator Saxby Chambliss.
New retailers are moving in at a steady pace, and really started to get the attention of developers after both Lowes and Home Depot built stores at the same time side by side.
Moultrie has that charm that most people fall in love with instantly. If your looking for low cost of living, friendly people, ample activities great health care and a booming real estate market, then you should check out Moultrie.

Check out Jesup. Population is 28,000.Not too big, but not too little. There is a paper mill in Jesup, just like in Brunswick, but it doesn't smell all the time, just occasionally. Laid back atmosphere, friendly people. Only 45 minutes to Brunswick and 90 minutes to Savannah when you want more excitement. Good schools and a great christian school 10 minutes away in Ludowici if you're interested.

I grew up in Moultrie, and let me tell you, I miss it a lot. (I live in Macon now, and there's just no comparing.) I didn't appreciate what a lovely place Moultrie was when I lived there...at 15 I couldn't see the charms of small town living past my frustration that there was 'nothing to do'! Believe me when I say that the grass isn't always greener. I love my life now, but I do miss 'home'. My family is still there, and I'm not sure they'll ever live anywhere else.
The real estate market in Moultrie is truly booming, so now's the time to move there. And it really is a beautiful place to live...one of the prettiest places I've ever seen. The school system is improving every year (and for anyone out there who has a child who is artistically inclined, especially musically, the school system in Colquitt County has one of the finest music programs in the country). Business is thriving, and tourism is increasing as well. Moultrie is a sweet, lovely place to live and raise your family. I'm getting nostalgic just thinking about it!
