Once I 85 construction is completed all will be well and the area as a whole is well worth a few extra minutes of traffic time believe me.
To each his own. The unique part of Newnan is the original town with its square and historic neighborhoods. The same type of town center and historic neighborhoods are found in LaGrange. Both have dingier neighborhoods (mill villages) from their histories as cotton mill towns and both have blighted neighborhoods on "the wrong side of the tracks" that are found in every southern town that has been around longer than the post war suburban buildup, remnants of the segregated south.

The thing that has made Newnan different in the last two decades is suburban sprawl: endless strings of shopping centers and cul-de-sac subdivisions that have no egress except onto old country roads, thus the feeling of unplanned mayhem.

If the Gwinettiazation of a nice place like Coweta is your idea of what transforms an area from a landfill, than go for it.

Both are good cities. If you are working in West Point, it makes more sense to live in LaGrange. Eliminate the commute in my opinion. LaGrange has a great downtown. A lot of development is headed that way. A good friend of mine is developing a Publix anchored shopping center off of Hogansville Road. LaGrange doesn't have the same things as Newnan or Columbus, but both cities are a short drive away if you can't find it in LaGrange.

According to you development is headed everyones way.
They have been dragging their feet on the Publix project as they were trying to get out of the agreement at the last minute and couldn't.

Excuse me? I made a comment. I'm trying to offer my opinion and advice. I'm not more interested in alcohol availability. Look at my name I live in Virginia! What do I have to personally gain or lose by Coweta county being dry?

Really and truly it depends on perspective. Being single and 28 I'd want to be closer to the excitement of the city. I wouldn't neccesarily live in Atlanta because the commute would be tiring but yeah Newnan wouldn't be a bad drive.

I'm not a country person I think Newnan would be a good compromise so I can only speak from my perspective. At the same time if this person is a family man or gal then spending more time with the kids might be a priority Hogansville is also a good compromise with less traffic than Newnan.

ONE warning folks: Here's the topic...

"commute from Peachtree/Newnan to West Point; thoughts? (Atlanta, Peachtree City: house, construction) "

Stick to it.

Thank you.

Agreed. Think some posters in the Columbus forum are having trouble sticking to the topics at hand.

Overall, a commute from Newnan to West Point is a bit far. Living in LaGrange would be the easiest. There is quite a bit of development going on in West Point, but I would suggest just living in LaGrange to lessen the amount of windshield time. LaGrange is a nice place.

Greg,
Glad to see you finally got him on the right track....lol
Thanks as we were all becoming bored with the predictions etc.

Lagrange is a dump and has been in decline for years(the mall is the worst I have seen anywhere except maybe montgomery mall(jim wilson prop).
Crime is worse than ever and west point lake is nearly ruined by atlanta waste dumping and I would recommend NOT swimming there or eating anything caught in it.
Enjoy your time off in Newnan/PC with great hospitals, schools, home values are excellent and plenty of retail/eateries.....nuff said~~
