commute from Peachtree/Newnan to West Point; thoughts?
May be contemplating a southern move and wonder what the local experts think of a daily commute from the Peachtree City /Newnan area to West Point?
The 45-60 minutes I'm assuming for the trip is a bit long for my taste, but the PTC/Newnan area seems to have many positive reviews (more than LaGrange), and the proximity to Atlanta and its offerings is appealing to this Yankee city boy.

Well, you've pretty much nailed it- it'll be a long, but easy, drive down the interstate. Right now it may take more than an hour, since alot of 85 is torn up for replacement, but once it's all back together, I'd say your time estimate is about right depending on where you're starting from and ending.

It wouldn't be too bad because the traffic isn't bad heading that way. You would be better off in LaGrange though.

I don't know for someone from up north who isn't used to the south, let alone somewhere as rural as Troup county, I have my doubts about LaGrange being a better option. I have family all over Troup county, West Point, Cannonville, and Gabbetville, and its nice but very very country. But if that country lifestyle is what the OP is looking for then save some gas and get some land in Troup county maybe a nice house on West Point Lake.
The closer to Atlanta I'm sure the happier a northerner would be. If one is in Newnan I can't imagine it taking more than 30 minutes once construction is finished. Peachtree City would probably be 45.
The only thing I don't like about Newnan is that it's a dry county and Troup county is dry on Sundays can't order a drink at Ruby Tuesday.

The commute down 85 wouldn't be a problem, the problem with the Newnan/PTC area will be getting to 85. The area has had rapid suburban growth and the local roads haven't kept pace. I have good friends in Newnan and what used to take less than 5 minutes from their home to 85 now can take half an hour because of the increased traffic load on what is still (for the most part) unimproved two lane roads.
Until suburban growth hit the Newnan area in the last 15 years or so, LaGrange historically was the much larger, more cosmopolitan of the two. Areas of Troup surrounding LaGrange are "country" but LaGrange itself is one of the nicer small cities in the state, IMO, with LaGrange College and the Callaway Foundation being two excellent institutions of which Newnan has no counterpart.
Not saying Newnan wouldn't be the better option for many individuals, but much of what has made Coweta grow is the standard suburban sprawl that makes it not much different from much of the rest of suburban America. LaGrange still has a "real" vibe. At least that's my opinion, I grew up in Hogansville between the two, my mother is still there. I would chose LaGrange over Newnan especially if the job were in West Point.

LaGrange is a landfill compared to Newnan/Peachtree City.
Once I 85 construction is completed all will be well and the area as a whole is well worth a few extra minutes of traffic time believe me.
