Here's a map.
Whitestone's location advantage (other than 1-acre lots, privacy and quality brick/stone construction) is that you won't have to deal with the traffic of I-20 or Hwy 78 over to 61 South.
When you're already pushing the 20-minute commute limit on a good day, that small advantage may turn into a significant one in rush hours (yes, they have them out there, too).
There is another new brick-home subdivision (regular-sized lots) just across the road from Whitestone Community, but I can't recall the name. You will see it if you find Whitestone, though.
Look up Nolandwood Lakes, too -- nice homes in the $400s to $600s on 1 to 4 acre lots with a small, pretty lake. It's not far from this area.
Good luck, pmichaelmd and family!
Welcome to Georgia.

Ugh,
I wish I'd looked at this yesterday! We drove through Danielle Estates and, while the neighborhood was nice, we didn't like the homes as much as we'd have thought we would. We then drove past Nolandwood Lake, but didn't stop in. I wish we had now! We did love Mirror Lake, though, and more or less verbally committed to a lot there with a builder we trust. I think it would be difficult to beat the diversity, breadth of amenities, and proximity to both Carrollton (work) and Douglasville/Atlanta (civilization) I think I could play a lot of golf and tennis at Mirror Lake as well as build the home we really want.
I will look the others up, though, as I haven't signed anything formally yet.
Thanks,
PMMD

Mirror Lake
Brownshoe,
In which subdivision of Mirror Lake do you live? We were up this past weekend and picked a plot in South Harbour on which to build. We're hoping we'll be completed by the end of June.
Incidentally, our son will be 5 next month and starting MLE school this fall. Any recommendations?
Thanks again!

WOw, well it's about that time for your great move? South Harbor the large (and beautiful) home that line connors road towards the elementary school, right? They seem really impressive!!
We are actually in the "original" Mirror Lakers area-off Liberty/Mirror Lake Blvd on Shoreline. We are actually having a community bbq this weekend for the community of Stillwater!! Its our first ever, so this should be fun!!

It is time, indeed! I can't believe we're ready now. We'll be up this weekend. I hope you enjoy the BBQ. I hope South Harbour residents will do similar things in the future.
Enjoy,

But I was so wrong.
The mentality here in Carroll County is still very much the same as it was years ago. Now I am about to make what might be considered to be sweeping generalizations about this place, but this is based on my own experiences. The majority of whites I have met here have a condescending tone with blacks and the majority of blacks I have met here have that "yes, massa" attitude. I have walked into gas stations where KKK and other racist literature sit at the checkout counter next to the gum and candy.
Yes, it is close to I-20, and only 35 miles or so into Atlanta. It seems to be growing-a Home Depot just opened and I hear Lowes, Ruby Tuesday's, and other chain stores/restaurants are making plans to build in VR. Of course there is a Super Wal-Mart, at least 2 Waffle Houses, some grocery stores, Dollar Generals, CVS, Eckerds, and other small stores located here.
I thought it was just me, but others I have spoken with who are not from here (and from more diverse communities) feel the same: like we stepped back in time, but not in a 'nostalgic' way.
Housing (and taxes) are less out here than in the metro area; no smog checks are needed on your cars when registering; my property taxes last year were around $1000, compared to $3-4k (and more) closer to Atlanta. The only jobs here (it seems) are factory/assembly, retail (Walmart-though nearby Carrollton is getting a Ross and a TJ Maxx in the near future), and the school system. One can be a substitute teacher here with only a high school diploma (or GED) and a 1.5 day training course.
Small town quaintness it is definitely not. Now Mirror Lake seems nice and friendly (the times I have visited friends there) and they are very strict on their association. Homes there however, are much more expensive (maybe because it is Douglas County) than the majority of homes here in Carroll County Villa Rica.

Umm... I have lived in Villa Rica all my life and my marriage is interracial. I think maybe you are confused. The southern manner does take
some getting used to. I think maybe you are misinterpreting some of the mannerisms. And my husband is black and I assure you that he does not have a "yessa massa" attitude. Nor do any of the other blacks that I know. There are a lot of interracial couples here in Carroll county.
My husband and I , have been married for 10 years and do not have any problems here. And you are correct that was "sweeping generalizations".
And I have never witnessed KKK literature in a gas station here. And we don't want the high paying jobs here we would rather commute. When the "high paying" jobs come so do all the headaches.
We like Villa Rica the way it is. Chances are you moved here because of the small town feel. But then it seems as if you want more shopping and higher paying jobs in your backyard. I however don't want the traffic and crime that come with a lot of growth. I would rather drive a few miles to the mall when I choose as opposed to having it in my backyard all the time.

We live in Fairfield which is in Villa Rica, GA. and I have lived in Carrollton my whole life. I have never noticed any problems other than the normal problems any area has. I love it here but we are relocating due to my husband taking a new job in VA. We are selling our home in Fairfield (inside of Carrollton/Villa Rica). Our house is a 3900 sq. ft. 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, living room/dining room, large eat in kitchen w/bay window, sunroom, deck, porch, full daylight basement that is partially finished (one bedroom, foyer/office/?, and drywall enough left to finish off at least another bedroom. We are asking $176,900, but will come down if we have to. We need to sell ASAP, my huband has taken a job in VA and starts his new job on the 31st of this month. I have to stay behind w/our children until our house sells. Fairfield is a gated community w/lots of perks such as a private beach, golf, 2 swimming pools, tennis, country club, 2 restaurants, 3 lakes, several creeks run through it. Our land comes w/in 6 ft. of one of the creeks. We have mostly hardwood trees and 2 lots. You can find our house listed through Coldwell Banker Real Estate MLS# 101489. Many more pictures are not ava. but are not listed on thier site. Avaliable for viewing at anytime!
