Back from Bremen

We just came back from Bremen. It is a lot like Mayberry in some ways. Think Mayberry with a downtown consisting of a Walmart, a few hotels and restaurants. I absolutely loved it. It reminded me of a few small towns in Maine. We had a visit to the elementary school and were very impressed! The people were all very friendly and happy to assist us with information.
There is plenty of new construction available. It sounds like a lot of people tried to move there thinking of it as a bedroom town they could live in and commute to Atlanta to work. I believe they found out that the commute to Atlanta on I20 isn't so grand. The builders went crazy building new homes and now they can't sell them but they are still building.
We actually purchased a home in a different town because we were able to get more for our money. The lots that new homes are being built on in Bremen are VERY small. If you don't enjoy yard work then these homes are for you. We wanted a few acres with our home.
Good luck and best wishes!

Bremen was Mayberry
When I was a child, Bremen was like Mayberry. The downtown area was along U.S. Highway 78 and split by the railroad tracks. My grandfather used to walk to the barber shop most every day to pass some time with the other old-timers. And he would treat us kids to an ice cream cone from Garrett drugstore on Buchanan Street.
And us kids knew where to find wild scuppernongs and blackberries nor far from town. There were no fast food restaurants then, only a Dairy Queen which was miles away.
But after the Interstate was built and now the U.S. 27 Bypass, the old stores closed. Downtown Bremen is not the same. I would like to see new stores will open and revitalize this older part of town.

Here you go -- pretty little Statham, Georgia. Info
And don't these guys seem like the contemporary version of Mayberry's police force? (I seriously mean that in the nicest possible way!)

Karoga, how far are you from Hinesville? We are considering a move and that is where the company is located.
Thanks,
Kim

I'm in Jesup, Georgia right now.
Hey there!! Jesup is located about 24 miles southwest of Hinesville on Hwy 84. Its a nice community that plays music on mainstreet for shopping on Saturdays. We have several festivals through the year and an awful football team that plays its heart out during football season. The Band is kickin though and the schools have a heart for the kids!! Several locally owned businesses are very much worth a 100 mile one way drive and the people here are friendly enough. There is old money and politics but you will not escape that anywhere. We have plenty to choose from as far as worship services go or recreation if you choose to just acknowledge God for His wonderful creation. Hope you come on down and check us out. We'll leave the back door unlocked for ya!

Washington, GA in Wilkes County has a very Mayberry feel. It also is home to The Biscuit Place.. which has some of the best buttermilk biscuits you will ever put into your mouth.
Mayberry was based on Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, NC

Hey, I live in Toccoa and we aren't Mayberry; but, we are a nice small town with some growth in the works. We have a fairly low crime rate and a lot of friendly people. Check us out.
