my choices for towns fitting the " Mayberry " discription would be Senoia and Pine Mountain . Senoia is one of my favorite places in Fayette county to sneak away from my house in Peachtree City to. It has beautiful , old homes everywhere and a really neat old town busness district that is hard to find around Atlanta. It's no wonder it has been featured in several movies. ( Fried Green Tomatos, Sweet Home Alabama, and Toby Keith's film) are one that come to mind.
Pine Mountain, I find just beautiful to explore after being at Calloway Gardens for a while.

I am going to....
post a town from each area of the state for you...
Southwest Georgia - Colquitt, GA
Southeast Georgia - Waycross, GA
South Central GA - Tifton, GA
Central Georgia - Perry, GA
West Georiga - LaGrange, GA
East Georgia - Madison, GA (One of my favorite small towns)
I'm not going to name any towns in North Georgia mountain area because my travels are limited in this area and it looks like many people have already given many options there.
You should definately check out Madison, GA though.

Well I am all the way in Missouri, but we spent 10 days in your beautiful state last week and I was in awe of Madison. So much we have seriously talked about moving to the area! What a cute town! When we got home and checked the stats, we were amazed to see the small population, they seem to really have it together! I took tons of pictures of the real estate and the downtown area. Also in consideration is Greensboro or Eatonville, or anywhere near Lake Occonee. Sorry if I misspelled any of these! Does anyone know where all the babyboomers are moving to?
Thanks!

Madison is truly one of the Gems of Georgia. It is a postcard of small-town America. I believe a TV Show called "I'll Fly Away" was filmed in Madison. Madison is the hub of what is called Georgia's Antique Trail. Another nice town is Rutledge just west of Madison in the same county.. it's a bit smaller but still as endearing.. Rutledge has a great little restaurat called Yesteryear Cafe. Hard Labor Creek State park is also nearby. Greensboro is also nice but doesn't seem to have as many of the antique stores of restaurants that Madison has.

The Downtown area of....
Madison is very charming and is the best in the Lake Oconee area in my opinion.
But the best restaurant in the area is Yesterday Cafe in downtown Greensboro, GA. They have a Fried Green Tomato Sandwich that is so good that it will make your tongue slap your brains out!
Lake Oconee area is really a up and coming area. Reynolds Plantation has done alot for that area.

Mayberry is alive and well in Georgia
Move to Commerce or Maysville Georgia. You will love it there. My six year old son can whistle the theme song from the Andy Griffith song and we live in Atlanta. All Georgia natives love and remember Andy, Opie, Barney and Aunt Bea. We even like Ben Matlock. You will know what I am talking about. I read an ad in COMMUNITIES (Atlanta real estate) magazine about a planned development in suburban Atlanta describing itself as "Mayberry". Good luck. Let us know what you find.

not Savannah
All I can say is Savannah is more like the movie "Sin City" than a Mayberry. LaGrange is a nice town, and is worth looking into.
