I'm a bit removed from 'everyday life' in the Golden Isles, since I'm just a summer resident...I do know that St Simons Elementary is very well-regarded, as is the island's private school, Frederica Academy.
Please wait...
I do have a cousin whose daughter opted to attend Glynn Academy (one of the two public high schools in Brunswick) over Frederica. She has been very pleased with the experience.
The main employers in Brunswick are FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center), the pulp mill (owned by Koch Industries, I think), and of course the Port of Brunswick.
As far as housing, you will find that Brunswick is significantly less expensive than St Simons and Jekyll Islands. Two of my favorite neighborhoods in Brunswick are the Union St area (also called South End or the Victorian District) and Windsor Park (20's - 30's era homes). Most of the new development has moved out west to Brantley County, up along the 'Spur' to I-95, and north of the city off of Harry Driggers Blvd.
