I live in Auburn, just outside of Dacula in Gwinnett County. Houses are affordable, schools are good, and we are centrally located to everything. It is about 45 min NE of Atlanta.

I live just outside Loganville and have never been happier. My teens are able to enjoy being teens without all the headaches of 'intown' living, yet we're only 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta.(unless it's 'rush hour') Racial tensions here are almost unheard of, and acceptance of others seems to be the order of the day.

Good thing, too, or my kids would be miserable.

Default the mountains are where you need to be

well if i were u i would go to the north ga mts. and i would prefer blairsville but i do have to tell ya that if you are wanting to get away from the transplants then you arent getting away from anything so.......and if you want a small school woody gap is the smallest school in georgia and its a great school, but if not that go to the union county schools in town but i do have to warn you the teachers(some of them) there have a few problems they need to get over, and can be really judgemental but other than that blairsville is a pretty good safe town and it is pretty just some of the mts have homes on them and that makes them look UGLY and the people up here hate that......but if not blairsville, definatley towns county(hiawassee)

Angry maximum growth / minimum resources

I've lived in Gwinnett county since leaving the military in 1987, first in Lilburn and then in Lawrenceville. I find it difficult to imagine anyone wanting to move to this area anymore unless mandated by a promising career or substantial property inheritance. Growth is rampant, with no regard to declining resources of water and restrictions on water use are imposed earlier in the season with each passing year. Violent crime and gang activity is on the rise and traffic is a
mess.

GuyPinestra (or anyone!)

- My job will be transfering me to Lawrenceville by the end of the year (I'm a programmer) and I have a 16 year old son. Can you recommend a particular area and/or high school?

Thanks!

North Ga is a great place for raising children, good schools, cost of living low. 575 from Atlanta makes it an hour or so drive from Atlanta to Jasper to past Blairsville. Skip Ellijay, the illegals are there because of the local chicken processing plant, and chicken farms are everywhere. They stink! You will find yourself right at home with Floridian transferee's...plus, vacationers. Crime is almost nonexistant, and you are within 2 hr drive to Chattanooga, and the Smoky Mtns. About 1.5 to 6 Flags.

How do I know so much you might ask. Because I moved here from New Orleans many years ago with my young children for the same reasons you are...Now, I am watching my grandchildren roam the beautiful mountain trails.

Come on up and you won't ever look back. Just take my advice and check on which towns have the chicken processing businesses as the illegals who work for them are really taking up a lot of our tax dollars to keep up medically with upkeep on them. Just my point of view.

Check out the little towns surounding Athens, Jefferson, Winder, Statham, Bogart, Watkinsville, Winterville, Danielsville ect. I live just outside Jefferson and there's good shopping close. Athens has all the stuff you'd ever want to buy and if not the BIG Mall of Georgia is about 40 mins away in Buford.

These area's are close to the Mountains, affordable housing ect.

Jobs can be an issue as they do pay less out here, however, the towns on the west side of Athens, Winder and Jefferson people will commute to North ATL for work.

LarryLarry...Try looking into Loganville on the Walton County side. I have stated here before...I have a son (my last at home) that is attending Loganville High in his senior year. We have lived here for 5 years and love it! There is a lot of building going on and I am sure you can find what you are looking for.Lawrenceville is not that far..depending where you have to go maybe 30 minutes. PM me if you need more info and good luck to you and your son!
