Default Know anything about peachtree?

HI! I should introduce myself, my name in Cindy Hill. My family is being relocated and would love to live in Peachtree! I would like to know how spread out the "town" is. Is it nice and cozy w/ strip malls, coffee shops, a bangin beauty shop all revolving around fountains! Or is it more sprawling with Mall's etc... spread out all over the place? I could use any info or help that you could spare, especially about the best high-schools and middle schools. Right now we own a 2350 sq. ft. house w/ inground pool, we have decided to rent a nice home before we buy again - help with this would be greatly appreciated. Well,,,it's been nice talking to y'all, if anyone has any advice or some of those nice little answers, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. thanks.............Cindy

I think you mean Peachtree City...south of Atlanta. It is a nice area...fairly spread out. We are actually getting ready to leave Atlanta (15 years has been too long). Where are you coming from?

Cindy,
I think you are most likely meaning "Peachtree City". This town is in Fayette County which is the most expensive place to live south of Atlanta. Most residents are Delta employees (pilots and their families) My sister lived there before her husband transferred to fly out of New York. Yes, Her husband is a Captain for Delta.
No, there is not a town square, no large malls, And there are no fountains.(except maybe in the lake) Yes! plenty of strip malls and traffic congestion. And believe me, there are no bargains(lol);-)
Besides that, residents have an enjoyable lifestyle. The whole city is paved with golf cart paths(many residents have golf carts) which residents use to get around town. Supposedly, the developers of this planned community designed this feature to be eco-friendly. Strangely enough, you don't need a license to drive these little motor carts, so vehicle drivers have to watch out for the kids as they scoot across intersections onto an ajoining path.
The school system is top notch by Georgia standards. The individual neighborhoods have there own pools, some have tennis, all have covenants(rules and regulations) and every lawn is pristinely manicured.
If not, you get fined. There are also home association fees. Vehicles must always be parked in the garage. Everyone I know who lives there really enjoy their lifestyles and are very happy there. For me and my personal taste it is a little too "white bread". I enjoy a life that is more "real" and a little "gritty". :-D

RE:" Know anything about Peachtree. " Hello eyeryone, this is Cindy a.k.a. loulou. You are 100% correct....It should have read "Peach Tree City" in the county of Fayette. My husband is being forced to relocate to Georgia, because the plant that he works with here (Palm Harbor Homes, Boaz Alabama) told us one day out of the blue that the plant was going to be closed, and the company is giving him to the 1st of October to have everything cleared out. His title was Vice President and he is being offered the same job in Georgia at a plant in LaGrange. I know I have no right to complain, my husband still has a job with the same title and the same pay scale as before, if not more.......................We have lived in this small quaint little town all our lives ( me, my husband, and 3 daughters). I don't know anything about Georgia, i'm racking my brain, and worrying myself to death trying to find a good place to live! My #1 priority is the safety of my three beautiful; inside and outside; not a pretentious bone in their body; innocent and nieve daughters. This search has been very rough on me. I am at the point that I don't know what to believe. The internet said that Peachtree City was ranked best (8th ?)city in the nation to raise a family, and the schools were EXCELLENT.......... WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL! I started and read a lot of the posted data. My universe cracked when I read about how high a rate of "Child Sex Offenders" there was in this city, and also how the city's police departement's are very aggressive, and basically a swat team around the school's because of all the "Child Sex Offenders". Now I don't know what to think, and I don't know what to do, I am no longer excited about moving to what I thought was going to be a great place. There is one thing I know for sure .........I WILL NOT PUT MY KIDS SLAP-DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUNCH OF CHILD SEX OFFENDERS!! Please anyone out there, if you have any information you can share with me, or any hard facts good or bad, write to me. I am at the end of my rope, and I need help. The more information I have will lead to making the best decision for my family. Thank you so much everyone. Cindy

my bad, i ment to say peachtree city in the county of fayette

So sorry to hear about your situation. I have a family with two boys (6 and 4) and we are leaving Atlanta for the reasons you mentioned. We live in Gwinnett County (our high school is consistantly ranked in the top 5 in the state). In my opinion...this generally area is not a nice, safe, quaint place to raise a family. We are looking for something like we had growing up...and it sure isn't metro Atlanta! Have you looked into actually living in La Grange
Good Luck to you!

LouLou,
Hi, It's me again, I replied to your post earlier. I am also a concerned mom of 3. This is why I homeschool. As far as your concerns go? PLEEAASE! There is NOT a concentrated population of sex-offenders in P'tree City. If you noticed, Those perverts drove from outlying areas, some even drove from an hour away. They were lured over through the internet by an undercover agent posing as a teen. #1. I have to wonder why law enforcement want to lure these sickos into their community? #2.Once they arrive, these deviants should be subject to a good old fashioned public stoning.
If you research, you will find per capita, Boaz, Al. is no better off when it comes to crimes against children. That said, The real problem is unattentive parents leaving their kids to do whatever they please. The solution is responsible, supervised internet use and discipline kids even if you have to ground them until they are half-way to China! I'm sure your children are very well supervised(you sound like an excellent mother) and I'm sure you will have no problems in P'tree City. Peachtree City really does have a utopian, insulated quality of life. Although, your husband will have quite a commute ahead of him! approx. 45 min, to 1 hr. to Lagrange.
I really do hope I have helped alleviate some of your concerns.
Best regards,
Kristine

Default LaGrange sounds good

From what I've heard.....LaGrange is a nice place. I have even tried to get my husband to relent to moving there. We are moving out of South Fulton county. There is not one reason to stay here anymore! LaGrange was the first city in Georgia to get internet service for it's citizens and according to a friend whom retired from the Georgia Department of Archives (or how ever it is titled), LaGrange is one city in Georgia that has enjoyed little or no corruption in it's administration. They have received a sizable grant to rejuvinate the city and are growing with the needs of the citizens in mind. They are working on a very pedestrian friendly downtown area and have a very nice college campus very close to downtown. They are building an AMC multiplex of theaters. The schools are great from what I hear from a parent of grade school children. She loves living there and it has a small town feeling still. Good Luck.

I really don't know anything about LaGrange, but from No Mo's description, it sounds very nice. Don't subject your husband to more of a commute than he has to take. It's not worth it! Peachtree City is nice in a sterile, we must all follow the rules, kind of way. I've been there a few times, and it is kinda neat to see everybody riding around in golf carts, and it's so much better for the environment, not to mention saves a lot in gas. But Peachtree City just isn't a Southern town! There's no culture, no individuality. And it is spread out, no little towntown area.

I wish you luck, I hope y'all enjoy wherever you decide to settle.

Hi,

The key question is where your husbands work will be located in Georgia.
Trust me, travel distance in the Atlanta area is important.

I live in NE Gwinnett County. Nice place, good schools, and safe.

Atlanta as with all large cities ( I have lived in NYC, Philly, Baltimore, and NJ)
is typical of all. Good parts, Bad parts, and parts we all want to run from.
Peachtree City is a nice area. The issue is Fayette County is very close to Clayton County, thus providing targets for the thugs to hit and run.

Clayton was a nice area but over the last 10 years has hit a decline at record speed. Taxes, crime, and just down right dangerous. I call it the Camden, New Jersey of Georgia.

Gwinnett County is the same. Nice in the North, Northeast and Northwest, ok in the Central, and God help ya in the South County. Why? Well your in Cynthia McKinney's district, need I explain more? I have two new neighbors down the street (one white/one black) who laughed. They said they ran from the area.

I have moved with my company 7 times in 18 years. A suggestion since your in Bama. Find where your husbands workplace is located. Draw a 25 mile radius around the map. Find a Hampton Inn or something, and plan a weekend getaway. A Thursday-Sunday event. Use the day to tour shopping in the area. Leave the hotel at rush hour and drive to his office. Go to the schools at 2:30 (HS) Go to the mall in the early evening, and take a tour around the neighborhood after 9pm. You will either say ok or no way.

As the law states under any large metropolitian area. It's either fun and silly or very (rhymes with city) in the city.

Good Luck
