Brunswick area?
I am looking for a large home on a marsh creek/river but I dont want to get to rural. I like the Brunswick area. Is it safe and does it have private schools? I am also considering the Charlestown SC area.

Brunswick has safe and unsafe areas, like any city of its' size.
There are some small private Christian schools in Brunswick, but the best known private school in the area is on neighboring St Simons Island, Frederica Academy.
Please wait...

Ya, I looked at the Frederica Acadamey. Would you say that Brunswick is a good place for middle school and high school kids? My son is almost in high school and wants to go the the University of Florida so we would like to move to the south, we are from Northern VA.

All depends on what you want for your child. St Simons Island is lovely, and actually does have a lot of permanent residents with kids that age. My cousin has a 13 yo that is at Frederica and they are very happy with it. Another cousin gave her (now 17 yo) daughter the option of Frederica or the mainland public school (Glynn Academy) and she chose Glynn. Most of her friends were going there, and she wanted to follow. She has been happy with the choice.
The parents of the average kid at Frederica are going to be very 'well-heeled', as they are residents of St Simons and Sea Island for the most part; at Glynn, there is going to be a more diverse experience. There is, of course, Brunswick HS in the northern part of the city. Two words: I wouldn't.
So, not knowing what your circumstances are, here are your options.

Thanks, we have are children currently at Flint Hill School and the price is rediculous, almost $30,000 PER CHILD! Would you say St. Simons over Charleston SC?

I love both...but I'm not am impartial observer...my mother's family goes back for generations on SSI and I love it dearly.
Let me put it this way...my cousin has lived in NYC's Upper East Side, Darien, CT, Lake Forest, IL, Atherton, CA and is now on Sea Island, GA...she's never been happier.

Very rarely. Its' location on the Georgia Bight puts it far from the Gulfstream, and Atlantic hurricanes leaving FL are generally pulled out into the Gulfstream and make eventual landfall in South or North Carolina (or even further north).
We may get the occasional sideswipe, but not a direct hit. Take a look at the map and you'll see what I mean. Brunswick is the westernmost port city on the Eastern Seaboard.

I would say that Charleston does, due to it's position on the coastline. Brunswick tends to catch the edge of the hurricanes passing by, Charleston encounters them more directly.
Charleston, South Carolina hurricanes
Brunswick,Georgia hurricanes
