Thoughts on Ringgold? (Dalton, Oglethorpe: to rent, homes, good schools)

We are tthinking of moving to Ringgold, Ga for a new opportunity for my husband in Dalton. We are moving from Raleigh, and would like a family friendly area with good schools. Unfortunately, I have not heard this about Dalton, GA. If you had the choice between Ringgold and Chatanooga (or a similar place that isn't too far a commute from Dalton), I would sincerely appreciate your opinion.

Catoosa County schools are very good. Most homes here are on large lots like 1/3 to 1 acre and not in a housing track. Most of the housing track homes that I see here are like 30 or so homes to a track and no sidewalks.
For our main shopping we go to Ft. Oglethorpe Ga or to Chattanooga TN.
