Me and my husband and our five year old daughter and one year old son are looking into moving to the Douglas area. We are also thinking about the following areas, Tifton, Valdosta, Fitzgerald, Waycross, mostly in the southestern parts of Georgia. My husband is a commercial/industrial framer and I'm in school to be a nurse. Does anyone have any ideas on what would be the best areas for us to look in? My main concerns are good schools and clean neighborhoods. Plus I need to be somewhere close to construction so my husband can find work.

Others may know what is going on in SE GA--I know there is a lot of construction work in North Metro Atlanta.

What is your range for housing? Do you want to buy or rent?

You can click on 'Search' at the top of the page and find relevant threads--enter keywords--'Byron', 'Tifton' etc

Here is a previous discussion of Tifton and Byron>>>

I moved to Fitzgerald in 2004 from Florida. 9tift county)
Here is a link that reports employment in Georgia.

I was surprised at the job growth in Telfair county just north of here (Ben Hill county). Not so much growth is Douglas (Coffee county), actually a decline. Tifton (Tift county) not much growth. The county thats growing(from my local news) is just north of Albany in Lee county, Leesburg is the county seat of Lee county. Don't buy a lot of house(value), here because the property tax rates (millage) are high, see tax table.

You need adobe acrobat reader to view the above .pdf document. There are a lot of factory jobs here in the southeastern part of Fitzgerald. If you live here in Fitzgerald for a year, the city will give you up to $10,000 for down payment and closing costs to buy in the city. But if you move anywhere in the cities of Georgia get used to the train horns, all hours of the day and night. Waycross is a railroad hub for CSX main line from Atlanta to Jacksonville, FL. Hope this helps, SY
