<expletive here>
ok, my family thinks i'm nuts for being so obsessed about this but this is just.. horrifying. And pythons. LOL. I'll have to start carrying around a bowie knife!
thanks for all your responses.. I guess we'll just have to be vigilant and try to enjoy living there. My sister says she can't wait to move down so she can be scared of gators and pythons, too. ha!

ive seen gators in pretty much all the lakes in south georgia almost up to Macon but they really dont bother you much they come out at night at dawn and dusk watch your pets. They are really harmless though but just watch where you are and clear your property of stuff that will attract them and they will leave you alone.
You should be more worried about snakes!

Honestly, I'm more concerned about the indigenous poisonous snakes. Rattlesnakes and water moccasins. YIKES!!!!
Has anyone REALLY heard of pythons in Georgia yet????

Keeping in mind that if they CATCH you shooting one, you'll go to jail - the Gator won't.
|
If I ever shoot a gator, it will be because it is on my property and threatening the safety of me or my family. You damn well better believe that I will put a 30-06 slug right into it's skull. I don't think I'll have a hard time explaining to a Florida jury that I just did what needed to be done to protect my family.
Sometimes the law is just plain stupid, and you have to rely on the common sense of good people.

They found one wrapped up under the hood of some guy's car in south Georgia not long ago. It was on the news but I don't remember which town as I was doing something else while it was on in the background.
There's also some cousin to Monitor Lizards down there now, too. Meat eating lizards popping up all over. They don't specifically "attack" people but if cornered will do so and their spit has funky bacteria that causes nasty infections.
Oh yeah, and you have the Brown Recluse spiders, Widows, and fish with teeth, too.

I have heard that pythons are only a problem for people who live in Southern Florida, mostly the Miami area. The locals are hoping for an unusually cold winter to kill these pythons before they get out of control. As someone else said, pythons are not native to Southern Florida and are a big threat to the wildlife in The Everglades and people who live nearby. Not to scare anyone, but a python could eat a person if they can get their mouth around the person's shoulders. Florida is approximately 441 miles long from south to north, so I don't think you will have anything to worry about.

I didn't know there were any pythons in Georgia. I thought they were only in Southern Florida. Scary.

Yeah....gators, snakes, spiders and lizard galore in Florida and Georgia.
Warm, humid conditions, and swamp everywhere.
We learned to live with gaters and all other things down here, and how to avoid it.
One good thing is, most of them are rather shy....unless provoked, in mating season, or fed by humans.
I've seen them in peoples swimming pools.....but, a fence can surely keep them out.
I have heard of a report, that they found gators in a NORTH CAROLINA lake several months or so ago.
They, like everything else, seem to adapt.
I just don't mess with them.....but other people or MY DOGS, are not that smart.....LOL.
The only thing I will NEVER, EVER get use to, no matter where I live are MOSQUITOS, Gnats and "No seeums"......arrrggghhhh.
