Trying to find out about Rome GA (Atlanta, Washington: home, college)

My wife has the opportunity to help start up a company in Rome GA but we have no idea about this area at all. We are from the east end of Long Island and we could use some help finding more out about the area. How far from Atlanta is it? Do you know of any short tracks around (stock cars). Is this a city atmosphere or more rural and laid back? Any information that you have would be geat.

Rome is a small town in northwest Georgia. Home to Berry College and a good place to raise a family. It is about 2 hours from Atlanta

I don't know anything about stock car racing but Road Atlanta is located in Braselton, GA--about 45 minutes from Atlanta--maybe an hour and a half from Rome.
