Article from 2006. Georgia's Triangle
It starts with university research centers in the three corners of Georgia's Triple-A Triangle - Atlanta, Athens and Augusta. Out of these cities a number of business incubators have been fostering the early stage development of small biotech companies.

Article from 2009
Life-science companies in Georgia grow faster and pay better than most other industries, a University of Georgia survey released Thursday shows. And the biotech hot spots in Georgia lie in Athens, Atlanta and Augusta.

Article from 2009
Georgia Bio, an organization promoting life sciences in the state, and the University of Georgia's Selig Center for Economic Growth released a report in September assessing the sector's progress. The report says there are nearly 300 life science companies in the state, employing more than 15,000, and producing nearly $8 billion in annual product sales. The state ranks 12th in the nation in the amount of venture capital invested in biotech companies. About two-thirds of Georgia's industry is in the greater Atlanta area, with significant clusters also in Athens and Augusta. Charles Craig, president of Georgia Bio, says life sciences is the fastest growing industry sector in Georgia over the past four years.

Jobs? Growth? etc. Can it be on par with Silicon Valley, Boston, or Research Triangle?

God, I hope not.

We have plenty of sprawl already. This would be an unmitigated disaster.

And no, there is no way we can catch up to Silicon Valley or the RTP. They have already staked out their respective niches.

Not to say we can't be out front in certain other areas, like nanotechnology, etc.

I don't think all the land will be sprawl though. There are some nice size towns between Augusta, Atlanta, and Athens. Greensboro, Madison, and Watkinsville. You could add Covington, Conyers, Thomson, and Grovetown.

Conyers and Covington are suburbs of Atlanta, connected to Atlanta by an unbroken stretch of development. The same can be said of the Augusta suburb of Grovetown.

Thomson isn't a very big town, and it's at least twenty miles from Grovetown. In between Covington and Grovetown, there are only a few towns with much in the way of ammenities along I-20. Those being Madison, Greensboro and Thomson, and they are small as it is.

Augusta is way too far from Atlanta to create a "triangle". You are looking at 145 miles of space between Atlanta and Augusta and 95 miles between Athens and Augusta. No way that will happen with continuous growth . Atlanta and Athens, maybe, but no way Augusta. Columbus and Macon would happen way before that.

Thomson is a suburb of Augusta too. Mcduffie county is apart of Augusta's MSA. There is/was alot of construction on I-20 on two of Thomson's exits I believe. Grovetown is the fastest growing residential area in Columbia county. Grovetown also had construction on I-20 near the walmart. It may still be going on. I haven't been to Atlanta in a while. So I don't know if construction is still present.

Honestly, I've never heard of it called "Triple A Triangle" until this thread.
