Default Georgia Mountains

We recently moved to NE Atlanta from where else-South Florida and would like to find a reasonably priced weekend getaway/vacation cabin in the mountains that is rentable. I would appreciate any comments as to the differences in the NW vs. NE mountains. Have teens so it would be great if there was some type of "action" like a downtown area, lake, etc. Also would appreciate any info on lake &/or golf properties in these areas that is still affordable ($200,000-300,000). Would like location to be no more than 2 hours away from Atlanta. Thanks!

Try Blue Ridge or Rabun County. Both BEAUTIFUL areas! Still deals to be had!

If you go far enough NW, you'll be fairly close to Chattanooga, which has a lot of touristy things to do (river, aquarium, fairly vibrant downtown area, etc). Even though I live in West Cobb, will spend the extra time driving up to Chattanooga over downtown Atlanta many times as I find it cleaner, safer, and less congested with plenty to do. Not far south you're in the GA. mountain area with cabins, etc.
