Sandy Springs is an affluent suburb north of Atlanta. Homes are very expensive in this area and I'm not certain about the availability of rental properties.

I think Marietta would have more options.

The closer to downtown, the more cosmopolitan and accepting, but schools in Marietta are probably a bit better. When google maps or mapquest says 30-40 mins, add 20-30 mins. The commute into downtown from anywhere here sucks. I'll say it again, traffic sucks. You don't want to live in Cartersville, way too far out, and not the acceptance you are looking for.
LOL! They is a very large number of mixed kids and couples in Cartersville. Where do yall get yall information from? lmbo

I know several mixed families in Cartersville, they seemed happy living there.

Cartersville has became more suburban than it was about 20 years ago. It is not your typical hick town like Calhoun and Cedartown.

No but I'm a young black male with several friends who are biracial with their parents being married, I also have several friends with biracial children. Going to the local stores you see plenty of them out shopping.

I actually live in Cartersville!

Cartersville is about 20 miles from Atlanta. If you say your DH is working in the 'Beverly Hills' of Atlanta that must be Buckhead?

Smyrna is closer to Buckhead than Marietta via most routes.

Smyrna>>>
Good and bad areas in Smyrna - 30082 and 30080 how are they?

Yes. I was unsure of the name, but now that I see it that is the area he works. So do you know much about Smryna?

I live in NE Atlanta so I don't have a great deal of first hand FYI about Smyrna. I am a native and have some secondary knowledge of different parts of town. I lived near Cumberland Mall at one point in time and know how to navigate around Smyrna and Marietta. I've read a number of posts --such as those in the link I found for you.

The responses provided gave some excellent FYI for anyone contemplating a move to this part of Atlanta. There are numerous threads such as this in the CD archives.

Go to the top of the page--click 'Search' ---and then 'Advanced Search'---enter keywords such as 'Smyrna' and click 'Atlanta' forum. The system will retrieve threads with the keyword(s).

I know that Cartersville is quite a drive even if you are not coping with rush hour traffic. Several posters explained that this commute is brutal and advised you to explore other options.

I've actually forgotten what you originally hoped to find. A more rural area, IIRC--good schools, safe and convenient shopping???

Possibly moving to Smyrna. Couple of questions.

Smyrna or Dunwoody?
