When I was a student at West Georgia College, there was an old and disused cotton mill on some slow running river/creek just south of Carrollton. It was turned into a man's house and "tavern"/ club of some sort. I have found no one who lived in that area who remembers this place. Can anyone help me?
Also, there used to be (in the 70's) a publication, "Brown's Guide to Georgia" that was published monthly. It was a great magazine that, unfortunately went out of print. Can anyone tell me where I might obtain copies of this magazine? Ebay is out of the question; I have tried them repeatedly. Thanks. |

Thanks for the responses. Have checked out the book on Brown's Guide. But am looking for copies of the mags themselves. The "restaurant" was an afterthought of the owner. The mill set on the very side of the river/creek and nearby was a dam of sorts known locally as "the wall." Any takers on this one?

I subscribed to this mag for what I remember was it's entire publication time.
Have never enjoyed a magazine as much as this. Because I was generous with my copies back then, I managed to lose more than I saved. However, I do have 20 issues, ranging in dates from July 77 thru Sept 81. I still enjoy taking them off the bookshelf and looking at them when I'm feeling nostalgic. Don't know if I'd be interested in selling them, tho. |

i am looking specifically for info in the magazine, Brown's Guide, pertaining to places to collect rocks/minerals/gems in the nw Georgia area. I remember there was a listing of an outcropping of garnets on a country/rural road outside of Carrollton and some other locales where one could dig/hunt for fossils/rocks/minerals/gems. Can anyone help me out here?

Took a pretty thorough look through the indexes of the issues I have - didn't see anything that would help you. Might see if there's a city or County Historical Society with a local membership which may have some information.

You are looking for the old Banning Mill, now a country inn and conference center on Snake Creek in Carroll County, specifically Horseshoe Dam Road in Whitesburg, Georgia. |

I found some for you. Search Abebooks. Each copy appears to be $3-4.
