Default $170 Million new Metro Hospital opens this month in GR area

As the main anchor of the new $500 Million+ Metro Health Village, Metro Health Care's new hospital opens this month on the border of Wyoming and Byron Center South of Grand Rapids. The new village is the first of its kind in the country, and includes the hospital as its main anchor, with shops, medical offices, two hotels, a YMCA, a park, and a "town square" in the middle of the development to be built out over the next few years. Granger Development, which is the lead developer of the village, projects the entire village will employ 3000 - 4000 people within the next five years, in medical, retail and hospitality trades. The hospital alone has added 114 positions just from their move to the new hospital.

The new hospital is LEED Certified (environmentally friendly), features the second largest "green roof" in the State, and the entire village requires that all 40 - 50 buildings constructed also adhere to LEED standards.

Additional developments that have sprung up around the 56th/Byron Center Ave/M-6 (South Beltline) area in anticipation of the hospital/village opening:

Sorry for the GR boosterism, but it gets a little depressing around this forum.

Default But isn't michigan dead?

Isn't Michigan dead though?

I thought everyone had already left (at least judging by the tone of this board).

Why on earth build a nice new hospital?
