2to4seasons: I don't know how to write to you directly so I'll post here. No worries about a dog....we have a dog too! (can't imagine life without one!) The back yard is fenced in and there is a dog door that leads into the garage too.

I think at this point, we'd be willing to rent up to a year.....and rent would be around $1500/month. If you want to check out pictures, go to grar.com and type in a residential search by street.....Estelle Dr SE

I really loved our house -- it was great and I miss it!!

Hi,
My parents are going to be in GR checking out some houses for us tomorrow... Could they see yours? Should I call the selling agent? Let me know as soon as you can! Let me see if I can PM you, then you can write back

Good post by suydam. We live in Ada Michigan and we love it here. When we moved back to the area, we looked into EGR, Rockford, and Ada/Cascade. Rockford seems little out of the way so we focused on EGR and Ada/Cascade. We got more house for the money in Ada and lower taxes. We lived here since 1999. Both schools are great and you can't go wrong with either of them.

Good luck on your move...there are houses for sale in both areas, some sellers are willing to rent it out.

Thanks mich2fla. i think we'll rent in EGR for a while, try to get to know some people, and GR as a whole, then look to buy in the Ada area for a bit more space eventually. it's exciting to hear about so many livable communities so close in, and affordable thanks for the info... i'm about to start a thread about things to do and see there, so maybe you have some more info for me?!

I was so relieved to find this site and the info. you have provide about the Ada area. My husband and I are getting ready to move from Plymouth Mi. to Ada. We did a day visit yesterday and really liked it. However, I have some question that I would love some help with. We want to know where would be the best place to live? Subdivision? Our price range is around $200K. Also, is there a "nicer" part of Ada and if so could we afford it? Our boys are not of school age yet so do you know of any mom's groups? Thanks for your help.

That will tough to find in Ada. The least expensive neighborhoods in Ada are probably Adacroft Commons off of Ada Dr., or the neighborhood around Rix Drive just West of downtown Ada. Just do a mapquest search for Rix and you'll find it.

never mind, here ya go:

rix ada michigan - Google Maps

You can do a search here on GRAR for homes in that price range. Just put in zip code 49301.

Otherwise you might find an older home on a rural lot in the Ada area. Ada is pretty diverse, with some of the cheapest country homes and some of the most expensive/prestigious neighborhoods in the metro area. The entire Devos and Van Andel clans own estates scattered throughout the hills of Ada and along Thornapple River Dr. If you see a big ornate gated driveway, it's probably one of their homes.

Thanks for the info. Our price range for a home is looking better around $260K. Can you tell me what you know about the Ada Moorings sub or Clement Mills? They seems to have homes we could afford. Which do you think is nicer? More family friendly? Also, is there an elementary school that stands out amoung the others? Thanks for your help.

I know several families who live in Clements Mill and love it, with the biggest benefit being all the families with kids. I've heard Ada Moorings is a bit more clique-ish, but that was only from one person.

If you like the style of those neighborhoods and the price range, you might also try Arbor Hills, about a mile East of 3 Mile and East Beltline (same builder/developer), about 3 miles Northwest of Clements Mill. Not quite Ada but close and has the same feel, the elementary school is the spectacular new Knapp Forest Elementary, and the middle/high school is the new Forest Hills Eastern campus. I can't say enough good things about the area. Right off the East Beltline, which puts you anywhere in the metro area in 15 - 20 minutes (including downtown GR), and all within about 2 miles you have: bike trails everywhere (with more under construction), GR Township Park nearby, a fairly new Meijer store, new movie theater and retail complex with IMAX, Frederik Meijer Gardens, dozens of restaurants, and a new "lifestyle center" opening up in 2009 that will have about 50 retailers, PF Changs, Dave & Busters and a new town square.

Plus you can move up to a bigger home in the area and stay in the same elementary/middle/high school if you ever have the desire. $260's will get you a pretty decent sized home (2200 or so square feet). The people at Knapp Forest Elementary are top notch.

Otherwise, Ada is fine too.
