I concur.

My mother in law lives there, we've visited primarily on weekends. We go out to breakfast on sundays and not only are the restaurants open, there are people there...and they're aren't dressed up!

The Holland of stereotypes may exist for some, but it's in their own minds I believe.

Holland is a small city with great neighborhoods, possibly the best downtown in West Michigan (competing with a few others like Grand Haven and Rockford), access to The Lake and a low cost of living.

Well...the verdict is in...for now anyway. I had a great conversation with the hiring manager at Haworth today. Unfortunately, compensation was an issue...but I don't attribute that to Haworth. Even with me taking a pay cut to figure in cost of living and a few thousand dollars more a year pay cut on top of that, it wouldn't really be close to what they could pay for the position. It really just came down to the level of experience they were looking for and I was slightly above that. It was worth the conversation and the time to speak with them and there may be an opportunity that is more at my level next year so I'm keeping in touch with them. Plus, you never know what may change. She did mention that they are consolidating some jobs in other locations back to corporate....she also said that the company has an aggressive sales plan for the future and that will hopefully pay off. I did read recently that Herman Miller, even after having positive revenue over the last year, are going to slow production next year because there sales orders as a whole were down. It will be interesting to see how their respective strategies affects each of them.

Corporate Recruiting jobs are minimal if not non-existant right now in MI so I'm going to keep my eyes open but not hold my breath. I am still going to make moving back to W. MI an objective of mine in the next couple of years if possible. Hopefully something will turn up...

Thanks for the comments and glad this turned into a decent thread

Cheers,
KL
