Grandville, Grand Rapids Area? (Wyoming, Kentwood: apartment complexes, rent, condos)

Hi everyone! A job just opened up in Grandville... and I'm from Ohio which, I think by default, means I hate Michigan. I'm trying to keep an open mind here since I'm not even sure why I dislike Michigan... so can anyone tell me anything about this area? I've never been anywhere near it and I'm not sure what to expect. My husband and I are both in our mid-20s and have no children. We'd probably rent for the first few years to save money to pay off student loans. Should I apply for this job or is Grandville not a nice area to live?

Like many cities, Grandville has some good areas and some questionable areas. Don't limit yourself to G'ville though, it's less than a 20 minute drive from Holland or Zeeland, Hudsonville, Kentwood, Caledonia, etc. Lots of great areas to live, no matter where you work, including a lot of new upscale urban condos in downtown GR, which is a happenin' place these days!

Make a visit and drive around and you'll get a feel for it in a few hours. There are a lot of inexpensive hotels in the area for an overnight stay.

As allbusiness said, Grandville is a growing suburb of Grand Rapids. There are several large apartment complexes in that area, especially around the new Rivertown Crossings Mall. You could live anywhere in the metro area and work in Grandville really. And GR is a lot like Akron, maybe a little bigger (?).

Grandville is a nice place to live with award winning schools.I am a single parent and find it as safe as a place as any to raise my daughter. We have alot of faith based schools here.

Grandville, Wyoming, Grand Rapids area is great. I lived in Wyoming next to gville for 12 years and recently moved up state to Charlevoix. I miss it so much. Great culture surrounding the area, so much to do. The whole area is very religious, churches everywhere. I miss the ability to drive anywhere i need to go in a 15 minute radius. It's a great place to live and can't wait to move back. Missing my friends and lifestyle. Good luck with your new adventure. My advise grab a map and drive, drive, drive for the 1st few days after unpacking. Get to know your surrounding areas and what they have to offer.

I grew up in Grandville, left for MSU after high school, and ended up out of state shortly thereafter. Now I'm back having lived elsewhere for 12 years. I was never interested in moving back to Grandville, but I think Grand Rapids is a GREAT place to live now....

If you are of the majority religion and plan on having a family, give Grandville a try. Otherwise, consider taking the job and then moving to any number of other burbs or even the city, all accessible via 2 different highways going to and from G'ville.

Like eveyone has said Grandville is a vey nice place but don't limit yourself to that area or east of it. I live in Hudsonville and of course I think it is better that the surrounding areas. But that is just my opinion. We are minutes from everything and we are growing exponentially. A lot of new affordable condos being built here. GR is trying to get it's act together but with Gov. Granholm driving it is an uphill battle. We like Ottawa county more and the real happening times are west of GR. Of course there are alot of great eateries in GR and places to hang out if that is your thing.

Grandville is a nice city and I would have no problem buying a house there if I was in the market. As for the questionable areas, I am not aware of any. As with any city connected to larger cities, such as Wyoming, and Grand Rapids Grandville does get some questionable people coming in and out. But I can tell you from personal experience the police department does a good job stopping just about every car that looks like trouble. Good luck with your new job!
