I have osteoarthritis in my knees and due to moderate kidney issues doctors want me to avoid NSAIDs. I was wondering if anyone else has tried acupuncture to relieve the pain and stiffness. I would like to know of your experiences and recommendations as to who to see.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, OP, the question is not so much about whether acupuncture helps, as it is--where to find a good, effective practitioner. BTW, have you seen an orthopedic doc about knee replacement or partial knee replacement?

Japanese acupuncture generally is more effective than the dominant type of acu these days, which is "Traditional Chinese Medicine", which is something Mao cooked up after purging the very old Taoist traditional techniques. An honet TCM practitioner will tell you, that the practice isn't really about acupuncture. Its strength is in herbalism, but they perform acupuncture because the pubic wants it.

If you live in an area where there's an immigrant population from Hong Kong or Taiwan, you should be able to find a good acupuncture practitioner who learned the truly traditional techniques that have been preserved in those areas. And the old Taoist practices also form the basis of Japanese acupuncture, too.
