areas to avoid in grand rapids
Recently moved here from the cleveland area and was hoping to buy a rental property in the grand rapids area for additional income does anyone know wich neighborhoods would be a good area and which to avoid?
currently live in the caledonia area and my wife and I are really enjoying
it here so far. Thanks

There was another forum about bad areas in GR, so you might want to find that. That being said, I'd say...stay in Caledonia. It was recently rated one of the top 100 towns to live in in America. Their schools are excellent and it seems like a great community (from my experience) I know it's a little far from GR, but don't you worry. GR will eventually come to Caledonia.
If you do want to live closer to the city, check out Grandville or Byron Center. Byron Center is more rural (like Caledonia) but not so out of the way. Grandville is close to GR and is still a great community

I would judge by the iron bars and grills on windows and doors, run down looking areas. Graffitti. Some things are kind of signs that things aren't right.

Avoid the Southeast side of Grand Rapids at all costs. That is the main region of grand rapids where all the drama and crime is. The region around wealthy and Division as well. There are weird parts on the NW side as well, but not terrible either
East Grand Rapids, extremely safe and family oriented... NE and NW sections of Grand Rapids, decent, Walker, Comstock Park, Byron Center and Grandville, where River Town Crossings Mall is. Cascade Township is a nice area as well.
Hope this helps
