Michigan's tallest residential building beginning to rise in Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids' newest and tallest tower, and soon to be Michigan's tallest residential tower, has started to take shape. The 33 story, 406' tall structure sits near the banks of the Grand River, with panoramic views of downtown, the river, and the entire valley from every side. The 207 unit building is more than halfway sold, with completion planned for 2009.
The building will connect to the current Bridgewater Place office building on the West bank of the river, and will feature a clubhouse level with a pool, fitness center, a club room for residents and guests, and two oversized express elevators.
According to the construction team, the building will start going vertical in February.

This is cool! You know I keep mentioning to the wife that in a few years we should look into moving to the GR area if the job situations work out. My family lives just north in Greenville and it would be nice to be closer to them. Also I have lived in a smaller city before--Tulsa, OK--and loved the vibe, which I find to be simular in GR. Big enough to have big city amenities, small enough to not have as many of the big city headaches.

GR is a neat region - proximity to family is always a great thing, as we've see this past year in metro Detroit. The interesting thing to me is how GR is making a concerted effort to leave its conservative image behind, just as Detroit is trying to leave behind its union image. In the end, the areas are striving to head in the same direction, just from opposite ends of the political spectrum. Now if only Lansing can provide some much needed leadership in making it happen...

And it's funny how Lansing is geographically right in the middle too...

Not as close as it looks....but yes. In fact, all of downtown GR is near a freeway interchange (downtown is nearly bisected by US-131 and I-196 runs through the northern half of downtown.
What were you getting at?
I was looking at this building today from the pedestrian bridge near DeVos Place. It's going to look massive when it's finished.
