Saugatuck is great and I'm bummed we have not made it over there this year. I thought about buying a cottage there as an investment a few years back (there was one for sale that was decently priced), but couldn't talk my wife into it.

Magellan, still some good deals in Saugatuck. They turned the Northern Lights motel into condos (very nice) which is located behind the Blue Moon Bar and Grille. People are buying them as their future residence, but in the mean time they put them in a rental pool. Also, the summer isn't over, drive on out, no Michigan U turns out here! LOL

I go to school in Grand Rapids and i live in Allendale (10minutes from GR)
and i absolutely LOVE it out there. i'm so glad that i decided to go to school out there even if it is just a community college, there are many opportunities and not as confusing as i thought it would be, hah.
good luck

You're absolutely right. We have school-aged kids so that's bearing down on us soon, but we should make the short trip. LOL at the FUML's.

Magellan, rhe FUML's are not part of time managment! But they are here to stay.
Get a baby sitter and make a trip out with the wife. Spend the day at Oval Beach or wandering around downtown then treat her to a great meal at some of the best restaurants I've been to. And it's all in little West Michigan.

Actually I don't mind them. And for the extra $.1534 per day in extra gas, I'll take the safety aspect of them. (Plus, don't you burn gas sitting and waiting for a left turn light?)
What are some good restaurants in Saugatuck or Douglas you'd recommend?

Hands down, Blue Moon Bar & Grille in Douglas. If you have never ate there you are going to think you are in New York. It's so not West Michigan.

We'll have to check it out. Are they open year round? (probably a stupid question). We have no more weekends left until mid-September.

Yes, they are open weekends. Most likely you will want to make a reservation if it's within a month or so, they been busy with tourist. During the week we are usually able to walk in without reservations.
