Company moves Texas manufacturing to Michigan
by Lynn Stevens | Business Review Western Michigan
Tuesday July 15, 2008, 10:00 AM

When Attwood Corp. decided to move its Lancaster, Texas, marine products manufacturing operations, it looked at expanding either its Forest Park, Ga., or Lowell plants. This time Michigan won.

A $452,000 high-technology tax credit from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority and a $1 million property tax abatement from the city of Lowell helped seal the deal.

Moving Texas operations to Lowell will create 50 jobs at the Lowell plant by 2015 and an estimated 37 indirect jobs, according to the Right Place Inc., the Grand Rapids area's private economic development agency. Attwood presently employs 114 in Lowell.
