Never thought I'd see GR metro area with prices some 40 - 50 cents *more* than California!

USA National Gas Temperature Map

Is this typical?

Gas prices haven't made any sense since 2001. This one they are blaming on hurricane Ike and the long supply lines since Michigan has only one refinery in Detroit. There used to be another refinery in Alma but they closed it because the locals (many of whom worked there) didn't like the smell.

We were in North Carolina recently and did notice the huge difference in price. Michigan's a lot farther from a refinery. I think that's a large part of the reason for the higher prices.

Its been fluctuating a lot nationaly lately with MI being pretty constant and staying high. At one point not too long ago MI was among the cheaper areas of the country even with the large tax.

GR's been under $3 for a week or so at least. It is under $2.80 most places now. Which is still higher than we are at in this area still. We dropped to $2.59 today in Ludington.
