Chicago's City Sales Tax is 10.25%, the highest in the country! So whenever I have a rental car and go home, I get stuff at Costco/Target/Mall and Savor the sweet 6% sales Tax of Michigan.
It's the parking that always gets me. $30 - $40/day is not something you'd pay in Grand Rapids. We've started taking the South Shore Line train from Michigan City whenever we go.

hartland4hr is on a distinguished road
Yeah, I'm an East Sider living in Grand Rapids right now. The 'vibe' of the West side is so much different. The move to GR is interesting because you'll spend the first month or two getting mad at people who take their dear sweet time. We eastsiders are a lot more rushed, high-stress and demanding than Westsiders, so after overcoming initial annoyances, you'll find yourself a lot more relaxed and calm of a person. At least, that's what I've found.
