GOOD Doughnut shops in GR
Yes, where are they? I'm used to most cities across the country having a plethora of chain and independent donut joints.. however it seems that GR (at least from what I've noticed) has a deficit.
Krispy Kreme and Dunkin do not count, but I will accept anyone's suggestions otherwise.
The closer to downtown the better, as I live near there.

Marge's on 28th Street, if they're still open.

When I lived there, I liked Sandy's on far west Leonard (digs for address) 2040 Leonard NW.

I agree with Magellan, Marge's is to die for, we used to go there once a month to enjoy the wonders she put out. She actually made my daughter's wedding cake, it was melt in your mouth wonderful.

Marge's on 28th is my favorite in the area. They are most definitely still open. I go there every year on Christmas morning before the kids get up to grab a dozen. I've yet to show up and be the only person in the store... there are apparently other weirdos doing the same thing.
Van's on Fulton (at Diamond) is pretty good too if you're on that side of town.

Thanks a ton everyone. While I enjoy eating fresh, wholesome food, nothing quite beats a perfect jelly doughnut from time to time.
I went to Marge's and was amazed at the quality of their product. If there's such a thing as a "gourmet" donut, they've invented it. Slightly unusual – albeit insanely scrumptious – choices.
I have to try Vans, I have never noticed it, which is odd since I am quite close to that area. Thanks again!

Van's can be your friend
Definitely try Van's. I've been going there since I was a kid. Same owners. My advice is to go on either Monday, Wednesday, or Friday afternoons when the fresh doughnuts go out. The glazed doughnuts are to die for. To be honest, Marge's slightly edges Van's, certainly in terms of selection. However, Van's will keep you from making a trip to 28th street most times.
