Where to go to for the best journalism jobs in GR (Grand Rapids: credit, tax credit)

Hey guys and girls,

I'm new on the forum and therefore it may be nice to introduce myself frist.

I'm Klaas, student Communication/Radio/Television-Journalism in the Netherlands. I'm thinking of going into the marketing and/or television video business in the USA. My English is practically perfect so that wouldnt be the problem. I know obtain a greencard, so that aint the issue either, but i'm just wondering how and where to get into television/marketing or maybe film related business. Does anyone know whats going on in GR in this business? Maybe opportunities in the Local CBS/Fox networks?

If you know anything about it, please tell me.

I hate to break it to you Klaas, but all of the TV network affiliates in the U.S. are hurting badly. Dwindling advertising revenue and a much more disbursed audience (losing share to the internet) is what is much of the cause. If you can get into online media, or the film industry, you stand a much better chance of good employment.

If you have film production experience, you might try some of the multi-media and advertising agencies in GR. The film industry in Michigan is just starting to open up, due to tremendous tax credits the state is giving out. But it's not a big industry here by any stretch. Chicago might be a great destination, but then again, you have a lot more creative talent competing for jobs.

There was a message from the head of the Grand Rapids Press saying that they would continue to deliver the paper, but there were not sure how long they would continue it in paperform and I know that the other papers around the state like in Ann Arbor are also hurting. I know Fox17 has ads for people to join their "Team". If you are really serious look on the websites for different nerwork affiliates and see what openings are there.
