Grand Rapids Funk
I am just about to have a book published called GROOVESVILLE USA which is about none Motown Soul/R&B/Blues/Gospel/Funk music from mid & south Michigan, this of course includes Grand Rapids. I have limited info on a Funk band called the Black Aces of Soul & the Eyes of Ebony who had a 45 out on Black World Records, which was from Grand Rapids I believe. Can anyone help me with information on this group or label please?
Thanks.

I have never heard of this group. You say they are from Grand Rapids??? There unfortunatly are not alot of R & B, Jazz spots here in Grand Rapids for groups to play at, which is too bad, because that is the music I like. Usually the younger people ruin it for the rest of us when they do try to do something with R & B/Jazz/HipHop

Thanks for taking the time to reply. This band are from way back I'm afraid, the 70s! If you do ever hear anything about them, I'd be mighty grateful to hear from you. Thanks again

Make sure you include the Debarges, Al Green, Anita Howard, Marvis Sapp and Willy the kid (rap), among notable others from Grand Rapids African American artists.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I'd be very glad to incude these artists, all I need is a record label for each of them, an era and a style of music.
I really appreciate your reply, thank you.

Aces Of Soul, Here !!!!
I was a member of this group. I played trumpet on the record. Rodney Trotter sang lead with Panthea Barrows, Walter Oliver and One more guy named Kenny. Hosea Guyton played organ, Danny Allen, Gregory Williams, and Marty Oliver played Horns. I can get the whole line up for you if you hit me up. dallen-07@comcast.net

Thanks to all of you who read my original post and have been instrumental in me getting in touch with the various band members. If you check out this website you can now see how the book is taking shape. www.groovesvilleusa.com Also, if you enter the groups name into www.youtube.com you can hear their 45.
