Default ArtPrize Art Contest coming to Grand Rapids
There is supposed to be a major announcement Thursday morning of an "Event" that would put the world spotlight on Grand Rapids via the Devos Family.

I am thinking that it is a major convention grab for the City. That would make sense given the Hotel investments that the Devos family has invested in for the City (especially the JW (world class hotel needed for world class conventions and events), plus, the expansion of the convention center.

Cool stuff. The entire downtown area is going to be open for artists to use as one big canvas. And then the public votes on the winners via text messages.

Default ArtPrize is going to be HUGE
ArtPrize is approaching 1000 registered artists in 168 venues throughout downtown Grand Rapids! Some of the more interesting announced works are a 50' long Loch Ness monster to be installed in the Grand River and a giant table set atop one of the pedestrian bridges over the Grand.

Event runs Sept 23rd - Oct. 10th, with the public voting on the best artwork and the top artist awarded $250,000!

ArtPrize - An open art contest based in Grand Rapids Michigan, the world's largest Art Prize.

Check out this entry: a massive 300" x 3600"-7200" nylon Hemi-Flora Sculpture at City Hall. I can't believe how insane this event is going to be!

This event is going to be HUGE. I can't believe all the artist receptions and parties and buildings and bridges being turned into galleries around here! It's nuts!
