Ok grandparents. Weigh in here. My in laws offered to care for my children this summer. For the whole summer. For free. We eat there regularly at "pick up". I have been bringing meals with regularly to help off set the load. But I want to do something nice for them at the end of the summer. MIL does not really like eating out.

I know that they love their grand kids and like to spend time with them. But what they are doing is huge, and I want to let them know how much we appreciate it with something a little more than words. Anyone?

IS there a special treat that they like? Does your MIL like flowers? Or a certain kind of candy? Perhaps bring dinner over there? Or maybe put together a photo album of pictures of your in-laws with the grandkids?

Have either of these grandparents ever wanted to travel but have not been able to? Like history of any kind? Buy them a vacation.

How sweet! I can only speak for us but I know my DH could always use more time with his son to work on house/farm projects. Do your in-laws have any house projects they have been meaning to do, but need some more hands and/or muscle to get it done? Maybe you and your spouse could give them a weekend of help? I'm thinking painting, staining the deck, whatever they might have on their to-do list.

As a grandparent of an almost-two year old, when we take him overnight or for a long weekend a simple "thank-you" is enough because we enjoy it so much. The whole summer would be a different matter, that's a lot of effort and depending where you are may have saved you $3,000-6,000. While I would still not expect it, it would sure be nice to at least get a weekend trip, perhaps airfare, a hotel room and some spending money. If they have an upcoming milestone anniversary, such as the 30th, another option is to throw them a great party at a real nice restaurant.
