I would never imagine charging my kids for childcare should I be able to do so.

Family is family. I would certainly expect that when I am aging and need help that my kids wouldn't charge me by the hour to take me to the doctor or the grocery store.

You give a little you get a little and everyone takes care of each other. It is what families do. (At least that is the hope for my family.)

Having raised babies myself, if my babies have babies of their own and need someone to watch them and I don't have to work or do anything else I would not charge them. But, I love kids so whatever.

The original OP was being asked to provide child care for his daughter fulltime, 7:30 til 5:30 5 days a week. I think that goes well above the normal occasional freebie babysitting that grandparents often provide.

I don't think asking a small amount would be out of line, and certainly a small amount by comparison what the daughter would expect to pay a nanny or daycare.
