As each of my siblings and I were getting ready for the birth of our first child, my parents bought each of us a crib for the new grandchild. I'll probably do something similar when/if my children are about to be parents.

I've also stored 3 or 4 afghans that were knitted or crocheted for each of my kids when I was pregnant. I'll divide those up between my two children when the time comes along.

Each new grandchild will also get a copy of Charlotte's Web. It was one of my favorite books as a child, and was the first book I read to each of my children (yes, they were infants at the time).

I know it's likely to be another 4 years or so before my daughter and her husband have a child. I can't wait!

We started a college fund for both. I let them choose 4 items from the Lands End catalog to start school. I sometimes buy things for them on trips. We give birthday and Christmas gifts. I like to give three each at Christmas.
