A Florida grandmother was arrested for driving on a suspended or revoked license and spent 15 days in jail — including Thanksgiving — before being released, the Miami Herald reported on Tuesday.

The 78-year-old woman, Gabrielle Shaink Trudeau, was initially pulled over in September for driving too slowly.

Good for the Judge, for putting that in the record. I hope she gets a good lawyer. Where were her friends and family?

I wonder how different the public's take on this story would be if it read something like, "A Florida granny, driving on revoked license for unsafe driving, causes death of 15 in multiple car pile-up on Thanksgiving, after being arrested and then released just days prior"

She was driving on a revoked license. She couldn't understand the paperwork sent to her via the Motor Vehicle Dept. She had multiple moving violations and didn't call anyone for help.

Rather than ask where her family was, why not ask why she never called them. Would you still feel sorry for her if she was 38 rather than 78?

This is a story written to make you feel sorry for someone - and looking beyond the tearjerker headline, written to sell papers, is something only a rational person would do.

Agreed...somthing is off about the whole thing. If her frame of mind is that compromised she probably is a danger behind the wheel.

ditto. I hate to sound cold, but being a certain age does not put a person above the law. It sounds like she has at least mild confusion and continued to drive when she shouldn't be. It is also questionable that she did not have the capacity to demand her rights, call family/friends for help, etc. I certainly hope she stops driving now!

I felt one way reading the subject of this thread but after reading the article have no sympathy for the woman.

How many people did she endanger with her driving? What about her contempt for the law?

And a bench warrant was issued for her arrest because she didn't show up for her court date NOT because she had a suspended license....

Sympathy?? not in a million years.

Okay...if my Grandmother had been missing for Thanksgiving, believe me, we would have called the police, hospitals, done a missing person's report...so what kind of family does she have?

But, if she was breaking the law...she goes to jail...most people can call someone to help them out of jail, it seems like she did not know what was going on, so...she should not have been driving.
