Frankly, id rather have a Miller Sharps non alchoholic beer because it tastes better than the alchohol version and is just as refreshing. The way that continuous alchohol affects the cerebral cortex isnt good ; same for the liver . Think how many innocent lives would be saved from Drunks on the road if ALL alchohol were prohibited by law. In America, it is clearly the number one drug problem ruining lives at an alarming rate.

I don't drink anymore, but back when I did the only alcoholic drink I ever drank for the taste was a fine wine with a good meal. Otherwise, hell yeah--I drank it soley for the buzz, or as a social lubricant, or to lower inhibitions, brass my balls before a fight, etc.
Also, to this day, having not drank for almost seven years, the only drink I sometimes have a slight yearning for is, again, a nice glass or two of wine with dinner.
Well, come to think of it....doin' those Jagermiester shots out of a of a hottie's belly button used to be kinda cool too!

I like your style! And amen to why you drank. But do you want the "nice glass or two" for the taste or the buzz?
And by the way, I'm really impressed that this thread has stayed on track and not veered out into an anti-alcohol rant. I hope to hear from others about my original query.

I'm sitting here with about two fingers of Jack Daniels.

One drink. I will not be impaired at all.

I do love the taste, and would drink without the buzz.

I REALLY like beer. Two or three at a sitting is all I want, although I can drink much more on occasion.

As for alcohol being a "drug", I'll go with that.

But a person cannot smoke ONE joint without being impaired.

I can have ONE drink and not be.

Beer is an acquired taste. I like how Heineken tastes. However, the fact that beer, and alcohol in general, induces a buzz and an altered state of consciousness is what makes it so dangerous. I like to have one beer or a shot of Hennessy once in a blue moon and leave it at that. I don't enjoy being drunk or being hungover like I used to in my late teens to mid 20's. I left my heavy drinking days behind me in college and a year or two after. Heavy episodic drinking has gotten me into many ugly and scary situations in the past .

Yes, definitely. But I'd enjoy it a bit less.

Both reasons. I think I can honestly say that because there are some beers I will not drink and few bottles of wine I have thrown away after the first taste.

I drink whisky strictly for taste. Frankly, I wish there was a non alcoholic whisky on the market. (There actually is one, but I could only get it when I lived in Utah.) It's all I'd drink.
