Are mixed nationality marriages/relationships a good idea? What are your experiences?

Being the offspring of one, I am prejudiced in the direction of "yes."

The Baha'i religion requires its followers to marry outside of their nationality or ethnicity. It is a modern religion that seeks to unite mankind. If you have ever been in a room with 20 or 30 Baha'i couples and their kids you know its a good idea.

Anything can be good or bad. But based on my observation, some of the strongest relationships/marriages involve people across nationalities (I'm not so sure about mail order bride situation, however, but that may make for a whole other discussion).

Lets try to turn this into a "causes of the civil war" discussion. I know we can. At least it will then be a history topic.

Well, I wasn't aware until recently that some states (Texas, in this case), required a blood test before marriage even in the 1960s. I wonder if it were to check for nationalities, or just color of the blood.

As things stand now, I believe that people still have a choice as regards the nationality of their marriage partner. Imagine trying to enforce a law prohibiting mixed nationality marriages.

I like the historical line of discussion, but there is no biological test in the world that will tell the nationality of the color of a persons skin.

I think there were some laws on the books against "miscegenation" in the US until a 1967 supreme court ruling. That had mostly to do with with the black/white race issue.

Maybe we need to approach this from a Nazi historical prospective. I am sure they had laws on the books of not only marrying outside or race, but specifically outside of German ancestory.

I agree

I suppose in some family generations there will be issues. My caucasian daughter married a Mexican, he has the most giving & sweet personality as a wonderful husband for my daughter. We love him like one of our own.
