I heard that the practise in New York of Stop and Frisk has been shot down (pun intended)
What is wrong with stop and frisk? If you look like a thug, a punk or a drug dealer I think you should expect to be stopepd and frisked for illegal items like drugs and guns. So if the criminals and gang bangers don't need to fear being stopped will that mean that they begin to carry their weapons again? I say yes which means we will soon be seeing a rise in violence. What is to stop a "gangsta" from pulling his gat when he gets dissed and busting a few caps VS hold on a minute bro let me go home and get my illegal gun, you stay right here and I will shoot you when I get back unless I calm down on the trip back and forth or unless a cop stops me finds my gun and throws me in jail....

This country needs more programs like stop and frisk to help take violence of the street not less programs that are deemed not PC and a violation of a profiled thugs civil rights.
Crazy.

I say NO to something like this "stop and frisk" that you describe...no way. It puts waaay too much power in the hands of the cops. They can already shoot you for nothing and get away with it..you want them molesting your wife now too?

A US District Court ruling found the program as implemented unconstituitional last August. That ruling was reversed by the US Court of Appeals at the end of October. NYC Mayor-elect Bill De Blasio has been a critic of the program on grounds of police quota systems and racial profiling. During the recent campaign, De Blasio indicated that he would implement major reforms in the program and in the upper echelons of the NYPD.

I just can't believe anyone would actually agree with stop and frisk.

What's to stop police from stopping every black guy, someone in a hoodie or a female to harass them just because the law says they can?

Of course, you know that people will always say, "Well, I have nothing to hide..." Those types are the most dangerous because they're willing to give up their Constitutional Rights and let the police detain, search and harass them because they "have nothing to hide."

It's hard to defend alright. In 2012, more than 500,000 New Yorkers were subjected to stop-and-frisk. 10% were white. 33% were hispanic. 55% were black. 90% were issued no citation of any sort at all.

If you value safety over freedom, I would suggest that you read the founding documents of this country, which make it explicitly clear that the United States is an experiment in human freedom. I would then suggest that you move to a country that is supposed to be safety over freedom, and you stop turning the most glorious experiment in human freedom in the history of the planet into a socialist dirt-hole.

You sound just like the Germans who endorsed a crackdown on civil liberties in the 1930's; "Why do you need your freedoms, unless you have something to hide..."

IIRC only 6% of assailants with guns were white so Bloomberg argued that stop and frisk over profiled whites. I can understand why it is done: 96% of shooting victims are minorities shot by other minorities in minority neighborhoods, hence the plan.
Could it be done better, in a less intimidating way? Is there a better way to help decrease minority deaths at hands of other minorities or are their deaths meaningless and insignificant?
