First babies do not just "pop out" and if you had ever birthed a child you would know this.
As to the rest of your post I am curious what unlying reason there would be that is not prejudiced or discriminatory.
Can you say male chauvinist? Must be bored and looking for attention. I'll bite though. Please enlighten us with the "underlying reasons" why two equally qualified people should be paid differently due to their sex.
They start out the same but over time men outpace women in raises where the women take time off for family.
I was a software engineer for 20+ years in the corporate world.
I did turn down opportunities due to family. Those opportunities involved travel and/or extended working hours along with higher pay.
Why two equally qualified people, doing the same job, same hours, same workload ... AND be able to do the above ... actually, shouldn't they be paid MORE? Can't find any men capable of that.

It has nothing to do with "popping" out babies. I don't care what gender, race or religion you are. If you are better qualified and work harder then you should be paid more than the slug you work with.
Despite the OP's rather crude way of making a point, he has a point. Women often leave the workforce to have and raise kids. So it is understandable that when they return to work they would be making less than a coworker who does the same job. It's called "seniority" or "longevity". The longer you are on the job, the more pay raises you accumulate even though you are doing the exact same work as a newcomer.
Many of the deceptive reports on pay disparity do not take this into account.
So, women have kids. Ok, what about women who don't have kids? Can one explain the pay differential in that scenario?
Over all, women make less than men but for many complex reasons - including simply choosing lower-income jobs, careers with less opportunity for growth, and yes, choosing family over a full-time career. Nothing wrong with any of that - do you have a cite for a job where a man and a woman have the same exact job description, level of education/experience, locale and work comparable hours? Because that is illegal.
On the other hand, women make more than men in quite a few professions overall.
As to the OP, definitely a taint of underlying chauvinism there! I know many women (and am one) and most do in fact have husbands who out-earn them. I've never once in my life run into any woman who is "up in arms" about not making the same wage as her husband.
