I wonder what the laws are on our books for dealing with illegals. If they should be arrested than we need to start doing it. Bet the rest would learn to leave fast. We could use one of the military bases to keep them confined until they get the permanent sentence. Arrest them and give them a choice of leaving the country or going to prison.

Cost a 100 billion or more and take 5 to 10 years and may still not work.

And when you are done you have this huge immigration service with no rational use.

There are simply too many...So either let most in legally or live with the existing system.

Thanks for "coming out". Next time people question their allegiance to the country, don't blow your top. By that logic you should give up the parcel of land your house is built on. Will you?

It doesn't belong to them. The people that bought it are dead. The people they bought it from are dead.

Why don't you go where your great grandparents lived and tell the owner you want your land back. How about if the great grandchildren of the people you bought your house from demand it back?

That MUST be job #1.

Job #2 is CRIMINALIZING illegal status.
Job #3 is CRIMINALIZING employer hiring.

#4? ...offer a bounty to people to move back south.
That should do it and it won't cost all that much either.

hth
THIS^^^^

And I would add one other to drive home the insanity of the USA's application of our own laws or should I say 'non application'.

Simply apply whatever country of origins laws against illegal entry to those illegals who enter the USA from that country.

#5 Reciprocity of illegal entry justice application. If country A deports them or executes them and you came from that country that is the treatment you receive. Perhaps this would encourage those in foreign countries to FIX there own countries problems regarding opportunity, democracy etc....?

Obviously, the USA's 'attempts' at 'spreading freedom and democracy' still aren't working... billions upon billions in military spending and foreign aid giveaways later

Posse comitatus is a very important safeguard that protects our civil rights from government overreach. We do NOT want to allow the government to use the military as law enforcement agents.

A less sinister and more effective tactic would be to declare that illegal entry (and attempted illegal entry) into the United States of America constitutes an act of war. But politicians want to build future voting blocs, so the border will remain open, as will our collective checkbook.

Trying to fix a problem spanning multiple countries by focusing only on US policies is unlikely to resolve anything even if it potentially reduces the flow of migrants.
I agree. We need to look at the broader picture, like a doctor who addresses the root of disease instead of only focusing on symptoms. Otherwise we'll just end up spending billions of dollars ad infinitum, similar to the war on drugs, a continuous open-ended financial suck hole that can never really be "won."

Why bother hiring contractors to build the wall? The US Military has a very capable construction force. Because they aren't paid by the hour, they get the job done without the usual delays to extend the length of the job to fatten their paychecks. Our nation's military's original purpose is to defend the country. So bring the troops home from areas that are no longer trouble spots in the world (like Kosovo/Bosnia, Italy, Germany, Japan, etc) and establish bases along our southern border. Army troops could use ground penetrating radar to find tunnels. Navy and Coast Guard could use small gun boats to patrol the rivers and ships to patrol the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico looking for drug and people smugglers. They don't really need a complete wall. Some remote areas would need a wall while other areas could use a virtual wall of cameras and troop presence.

This might seem harsh, but build a wall . Deploy national guard troops.. Line the border with barbed wire and concrete. no fencing... Have troops authority to open fire on people that are unlawfully entering the country. Enough of this kindergarten immigration crap. We catch and release. then they just come back and keep trying.. What if one of these people trying to get in , is a murderer? Or a rapist? Our country won't even know the person is in the country cause the guy won't have a identity? You know, these illegals get here. Drive cars drunk, get into accidents with no insurance, Then just never show up to court .
